Plastics saved us from the Skunk!

1 post in this topic

Just got back from my Opener Dam Tour of Todd, Stearns and Wright counties (boat's gutted awaiting attention) and all I could get to hit livebait was redhorse and rock bass.

Ring-n-grubs in firetiger and red/white and the 3" white Salty grubs from TJ's Tackle did my boy and I real well.

He's 5, and it took a while for him to get a technique down without snagging, but it was easier for him if we used a Beetle-spin kind of set up. I was using a 3/8 oz. Mepps Spinflex (I love those things).

We were working the bottom casting up through current breaks.

The TJ's plastics held their position on the hook well, and the Ring-n-Grubs were very resilient, even after getting pounded by a few Northerns.

Gotta tell ya, it's an awesome feeling to be standing 15 feet away from a guy getting skunked who swears on livebait only, and limit out with plastics. (it's even better to watch a 5 year old outfish that guy grin.gif)
