Members Only Fluid Forum View   08/08/2017

Fluid forum view allows members only to get right to the meat of this community; the topics. You can toggle between your preferred forum view just below to the left on the main forum entrance. You will see three icons. Try them out and see what you prefer.   Fluid view allows you, if you are a signed up member, to see the newest topic posts in either all forums (select none or all) or in just your favorite forums (select the ones you want to see when you come to Fishing Minnesota). It keeps and in real time with respect to Topic posts and lets YOU SELECT YOUR FAVORITE FORUMS. It can make things fun and easy. This is especially true for less experienced visitors raised on social media. If you, as a members want more specific topics, you can even select a single forum to view. Let us take a look at fluid view in action. We will then break it down and explain how it works in more detail.   The video shows the topic list and the forum filter box. As you can see, it is easy to change the topic list by changing the selected forums. This view replaces the traditional list of categories and forums.   Of course, members only can change the view to better suit your way of browsing.   You will notice a “grid” option. We have moved the grid forum theme setting into the main forum settings. This makes it an option for members only to choose. This screenshot also shows the removal of the forum breadcrumb in fluid view mode. Fluid view remembers your last forum selection so you don’t lose your place when you go back to the listing. The benefit of this feature is easy to see. It removes a potential barrier of entry for members only. It puts the spotlight on topics themselves, and not the hierarchical forum structure. You as a member will enjoy viewing many forums at once and switching between them without leaving the page. We hope that fluid view, the new functionality is an asset that you enjoy .

Is there open water on the river in Monty?
Looking to get out for some open water fishing one more time before the "little poles" come out.

I commute over the Hwy 25 bridge in Monty and haven't seen any "rafts" yet. Tomorrow I'll do a physical check and and call ya. I assume you are looking to launch at your usual place.

Peace,
Rob

I fished the monti stretch from shore a couple weeks back and it was clear and free flowing. I know it's been much cooler over the last two weeks, but the water temps were still pretty warm when I was there and it would take a lot more artic blasts to start seeing any kind of ice flowing on that stretch. I did pretty well with the smallies, but as it was mentioned before, the water is VERY low.

Thanks for the info guys.
My home stretch of river (MN River)has a lot of ice.It usually stays open untill at least Christmas but with the low flow there is no current this year to keep her open.I was affraid that the same might be happening on the Miss.
I am not to worried about low water as I will still be running my River Pro.If anyone else is out and sees my big green shallow machine wave hello. smile.gif

Dennis your good to launch at either access in Monticello. I live in Monticello and from what I've seen it has to be in the single digits a few days, before you start seeing ice flows. It's been to warm for ice on the river, but its still really low.

Dennis
We were out in the canoe last Sunday. The only thing stronger than that wind was the bite.
The river is open and you will have no problems. You will not regret coming up here and spending some time. I would hold off on the jiggle sticks for a while.

Say, I'm finally getting a chance to fish on Tuesday, and am torn between fishing through holes on a lake while the ice is still less than a foot thick, or hitting the river from shore around Wright/Sherburne counties. I'm guessing that the river fish are gonna be in deeper holes, but I don't know too many deeper spots safe enough to take my son (5) to - the only two deep holes I can think of are in Elk River (rocky shore too dangerous for my boy to hike) and Little Falls. Any suggestions closer to Monty?

So has anyone been out to check the water flow out on the 'sippi around Monti lately? I'm just wondering if this cold weather snap we've had is pumping out any ice chunks or if I may be able to get some more shore action in! Sunday looks like it may be a great winter day to catch some smallies. I'm also looking for a baitshop that will be carrying chubs/LARGER minnows??? I might not make it out this weekend, but I'm keeping my eyes on the calendar for an open day!

Last weekend when we were out the river was clear....until I ran the River Pro up it!
We broke up a lot of ice on the way up river. It was quite an obsticle coures on the way down river. With the river low I had to run on plane and skipped over some thick chunks of ice..(Ice berg straigt ahead!)I think if the Titanic was built as tough as that River Pro it would have never sank! smile.gif

We did get into some fish. Some smallies and more walleyes. Most were a little on the small side but did manage a few nice fish.We had our best luck in front fo culverts in 6 feet of water.Caught some on catchn.com Ring-N Grubs and Kalins.Purple was the best color.

Hey Denny, Did ya know the RiverPro makes a great sled?
A few years back when In-Fisherman got the first 1672 HiPro, the ramp was snowed in. Sooo..four of us pushed the boat off the trailer onto the snow pack, spun the boat 180 degrees and pushed her about 40 feet to the water.
After the water test I ran her up on the snow pack to the trailer and we winched the boat back on. With a little practice,it becomes quite easy and fun.

Wow wow wow wow!! Am I hearing you guys right? You guys are still catching Smallies in the river this late in the season? Is the boat access in Monti still useable or is the river still to low? If so, Im done on the ice, I should unpack the boat!

If it aint a BASS, it might as well be a rough fish.

Nope no smallies up here. River froze solid.
Didnt see anyone catching any plus 19 inchers on Saturday. Didnt see anyone run out of minnows. Didn't see any Walters caught either. Nor that 8 lb Northern. Pretty quiet.
HE-HE-HE.

Sounds good! May an oversized deer with obscenely large antlers find its way to you!

Well the weather was pretty crappy but the fish were biting...Had to sort through but kept some for dinner. Caught a variety today, eyes, jumbos, crappie and a few smallies... rigging on or next to rocks worked best for us.

I still hope it's double!  I just went over the map with my brother and talked about our options.  We have enough places to go for sure.  It's always fun planning and talking about past hunts. I put out the question to the other two guys about staying in camp vs the house.  We'll see what they decide.  I hauled our "cabin" home from Ely today so we should have plenty of room if they wanna camp.

Did a few off season projects waiting for Ice. - Underwater camera, Fish Finder, Wheel house mods and the latest converting a 2 cycle Jiffy Lite 90 to an ION battery auger. Got the auger off Craiglist for $10, Drill for $15. Second stage of gear box is a 5 to 1 reduction so got the auger blade to turn at about 250 RPM which I feel is an ideal speed. Gear reduction also doubled the torque of the motor drive. Planning to use the Dewalt 20V ION battery as I already have charger and now converting one of the 1.5 AH batteries to either 9 or 12 AH.  If anyone needs a mid 80's Jiffy Lite 90 motor and clutch PM me. Has great compression, never tried to start it.  Price somewhere between free and a gift. If you did a project this summer, would you care to share them? DJ ION Auger HB.mp4  << Click link for video

You may want to consider #3 ; Rapala Jiggin Raps, or drop shoting. They both have been putting some nice size suspended slabs topside under some breezy conditions as of late. Fishing sure was downright epic the last week for all species. To bad it looks like "global warmering" is coming to an end for this year, was awesome while it lasted...... Those are some decent perch panman54. LOL!

Pretty remote and flat back there. I haven't been on that exact shoreline but I bet you can pull a boat up there quite easily.
