Navigating the Mississippi north of Sartell

6 posts in this topic

Can anyone tell me how hard the river is to navigate upstream from Sartell? I will be up there in mid june and I'm wondering how much wear and tear there could be on my boat.
Thank you

If you put in just above Sartell there are a few shallow areas, but they're mostly marked with buoys. Best thing is to try to stay toward the middle of the river and keep your eyes open for any debris floating downstream. As you get up towards the Rice bridge there aren't any buoys to mark rocky areas and it gets to be a little shallower in spots. After you run the river a few times you should have no problem reading the water. Good luck!

North of Sartell is no problem at all until you get up North of what used to be Gilligans then you just need to be a little more careful. The main channel is at least 10 ft. deep. The unmarked sand bars and such I have found are mostly sand and silt so they won't cause any real damage to a smaller boat just a little embarassment. Most of the shallow spots between the Sartell dam and Former Pirates Cove are marked.

Thanks for the information, hopefully I'll put it to good use and find some fish up there.

Does anyone know where I can get a map for the stretch of river near Rice?
