JT, I live on the big Miss just north of monticello. There are a few nice accesses around the area. The best one though that offers lots of parking, a park for playing or shore fishing and a real nice boat landing is located on the south end of the town right next to the hospital and nursing home. Just find the hospital and take the first little side road just north of it off of main street, you cant miss it. It is pretty shallow and rocky around this stretch of the river so be carefull and make sure youre boat can handle these conditions. Or there is pretty good fishing right from shore. Also make sure to check with the D.N.R about the special regulations on the fishing, If I remember right I believe any smallmouth caught between 16 to 20 inches must be immedietly released. Personally I hope you release them all like I do. The smallmouth fishing can be absolutely unbelievable!! My sons and I have caught many 18 to 20 inch fish and a few that have gone over 20 inches ,one that was actually 22---wow what a monster!! they are all still in there for somebody else to catch too! The special regs along with the tough conditions ( big rocks everywhere ) seem to really help keep the quality of fish up, and the guy who wants to cruise around in his big glass boat out! with all the new people that move out to this area daily and the increased amount of fishing pressure I just hope it stays that way!! Good Luck, Pete
