Captain Hook,

I like to use any type of small tear drops. have a decent selection of colors. I also use wax worms. together they are a pretty mean combo. You can also go to the panfish and crappies post and there is a subject on that.

Hey Hook, I see you are new, welcome.
For panfish through the ice, well, small crappie minnows for crappies, or at least take some along in case that is what they are on that day. The old standard of course is waxworms. Tipped on small jigs. That usually is the major producer for Craps and Gills. Stop out to HOF and he will set you straight or get you started in the right direction as to what is hot and what is not.

For live bait, I'd go with minnows for crappies/trout and waxies for the panfish. Small jigs will work with both. Ratsos and ratfinkies are good ones to start with, but turn the point of the hook out a bit to open the gap. If you are thinking of jigging for trout, try a gold, 1/16 ounce kastmaster with an orange stripe on one face and tip it with a minnow, minnow head, or a half a piece of berkley "gulp".Gulp looks like a huge waxie and comes in jars. You only want to hang the gulp by one of the trebles. Within the last week I have had very good success fishing trout at Fosters with the kastmaster/gulp unit.
