I heard the same thing during the weather forecast on KARE11. They said rain was moving through VNP and that was good since 600 acres has burned.

I am also curious as to where in VNP the fire is/was.

Satchmo

It's up to just about 1100 acres. Located on the peninsula between Loitus and Shoe pack lakes. Some areas on the south shore of Rainy were closed to the public, but that was before the rain came. I'm not sure on the current status.

Voyageurs National Park remains open with the exception of specific closures placed on portions of Rainy Lake between the west end of Hitchcock Bay and east end of Idle Hour Island. The closures are in place to ensure public safety.

Closures include the Cruiser Lake Trail System, Shoepack Lake, Little Shoepack Lake, Shoepack Trails, Loiten Lake, Jorgens Lake, Quarter Line Lake, Cruiser Lake, Oslo Lake, Brown Lake, Browns Bay Trail, Peary Lake and Peary Lake Trail. The area between the west end of Hitchcock Bay and the east end of Idle Hour Island is closed to all land-based public use.

The news last night said the fire grew to about 1,400 acres but was holding at that size. At this point they plan to let it burn and see what happens. I think the fire is in the shoepack lake area
