4 posts in this topic

I will be going fishing on URL weekend after opener and I was wondering if anyone ever fishes for pike that time of year, and the best tactics for catching them.

There are a lot of Pike caught with the same jigs you use for crappies. Slow moving baits are what work for me in the early season. Pike are still moving slow that time of year with the cold water. I would keep a slow moving bait a ways from the boat and wait for the big pike to come and grab it. They should be in with the crappies in shallow water. Where there is food there is Northerns. The cribs might not be a bad idea either.
Good luck.
