Lowe: (or other biologists)

What water temperature do walleyes generally spawn at? Isn't it around the low to mid-forties?

In the northern part of their range, walleyes typically spawn at 40-44 degrees Fahrenheit, although males may begin to stage when the water temp is as low as 35 degrees F.

As an extra tidbit, a female walleye, when exposed to several hard cold snaps prior to spawning, may eventually resorb her eggs instead of laying them. Hope it warms up soon!

F.Y.I. Shorty Hillman gave this newspaper clipping from 1947 this weekend and it read in April 1947, 230 million walleye spawn where taken from Waskish in one of the greatest walleye spawns in minnesota History. Kind of interesting I thought.
