Is there anywhere to fish from shore?

I was hoping to come up to the area with my brother-in-law this weekend to try our luck at some eyes. After reading all the post about the inability to launch boats, I was curiuos if there is a place that we would be successful fishing from shore? Furthermore, is there anywhere along the river, within walking distnce, that has ice thick enough to fish through? Any help or reply is greatly appreciated.
