For the past 2 years, I've come up to fish the Rainy in the spring. And both times we've made reservations and hit the river when it's moving fast and it's dirty. I know you can't control the weather, but what is the skinny on the upcoming weekend? Do you think it'll be in the same condition I've had in the past?

SlipBobber - That's a good question- people ask often about it.

Answer: The river will muddy up mostly from the Big Fork and/or Little Fork river opening up. What happens is the rivers flood and take everything that is laying on shore and puts it into the Rainy River. This is what causes the debris, logs and junk floating down. The swell of the water is what "mucks" it up. This is usually when we have heavy run-off, meaning really warm temperatures and things melt way too fast. So far this year, we are not above in temperatures, more normal to below. It is favorable that they will not open until after season close. 12 days to go.

Sometimes Boise will open their gates and flood the river. They have been releasing all winter long, as constantly this spring. We really haven't seen a change in the levels or clarity from them.
