Young Fisky...

Recommended Posts

Everyone knows Fiskyknut. His knowledge for fishing is incredible, and he has helped a lot of people, including myself, on this site and out on the water/ice. Whether its chasing pike or walleyes, he always seems to catch what he is after...
47b4db10b3127ccebf0a0d8078200000001610
And just to let you know, that was always the case with Fisky, even when he was a young kid at the age of 5 smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif......

47b4db10b3127ccebf0a0d8678260000002610
47b4db10b3127ccebf0a0d93f9030000001610
47b4db10b3127ccebf0a0da5f9350000001610

Fisky...the fishin machine! grin.gif

Good Fishin,
Matt Johnson
------------------
Matt Johnson Outdoors
Metro Area Ice Fishing, Team Catch-N, and more...
[email protected]
Iceleaders
Catch-N Tackle and Bio Bait
MarCum
Stone Legacy
JR's Tackle

Hey all, figured some of you may get a kick out of these old pics so I asked MJ to post them, did'nt realize he was posting the Pike pic too but anyways....
The Walleye/Perch stringer shots are from May of 1967.....37 years ago when I was 5! They were caught right out infront of my grandparents cabin on Long Point. This was before the days of depthfinders, downriggers and GPS systems, before the days of C&R, selective harvest, and the 1 over 19.5 rule, {obviously!}. Commercial fishing was going on bigtime back then too, yet we still managed to get a few eh.
The good old days?.... Naw the good old days are now!
Regards.....Middle aged Fisky

WOW FISKY!!
Not much has changed over the years.......Except your much bigger now. But the fish are still big, and lots of them!
Pretty cool man, pretty cool. You got me digging for old photos with fish. All I found was one.
My first sm bass caught in 1965, but it's huge! j/k
47b4d820b3127ccebf209a9274a80000001610
I think it would be neat to see some "olden day" pics, let's say from the 70's and earlier. I'll bet there'd be some pretty cool ones!
Later, CIBL
------------------
http://groups.msn.com/canitbeluck

olde man,
You have a keen eye! I dug and dug for any old pics of me with a fish....and nadda. So I had to doctor one up. grin.gif I am standing by my favorite "fish place" though, a Japanese koy/goldfish pond in my Grandparent's yard in Japan.
I'll tell ya, that Fisky even at the age of 5, and with "old style" tackle and tactics can catch more fish than most "modern day" fisherman. His name should be "Fishsky". smile.gif
PS: Fisky, I may have an open seat for a June 12 trip to Erie. Interested?
------------------
http://groups.msn.com/canitbeluck

Gosh CIBL I would love to fish on Erie with you but I won't be able to make it that weekend. I'm most likely going to be out there the following weekend and staying in MI for a couple of weeks iffin all goes as planned. A few days on Erie and a few on Sag. I have'nt been able to travel out there as much as I had been a few years back due to that darned flood setting me back about 12 years! I'm also in the midst of setting up a new business venture so my time is at a premium these days, I should be out fishing today but I have too much other stuff to do and it's only gonna get worse.....I probably should'nt be blowing things off and heading out to MI but all work and no play ya know! Looks like you were a fearless kid, instead of 'lippin' those Bass you reach right in and grab em by the tongue! I was a fortunate youngster, all my relatives were/are fishin folks. Growing up my grandparents had the place at LP, an uncle had a place on Springsteel and another had a place on the Rainy, they taught us kids well!
Hey Bob, cute lil devil eh, my how times have changed!!!
fiskyknut

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end... The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free. Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well. Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike. Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River. Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently. Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn. Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options. Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River... Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing. Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues. A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River. Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise. Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale. The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st. Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing. One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker. Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle... A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water. In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener. Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years. Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads. Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water. Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad. Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
