Fishing Report Clubs - LIMITED MEMBERSHIP - Join Today - FREE 01/24/2018

Fishing Minnesota had added a new menu item (see above) called Fishing Report Clubs. It's a way to keep the really good fishing reports coming and being shared only with those who also provide detailed fishing reports. We will only approve new members who request to join if they have already posted a recent fishing report in the area forum, associated with the Fishing Report Club area you want to join. We are going to limit the number of regular memberships, in the Fishing Report Clubs, to the top 20 members in each Club, to those with the best frequency and quality fishing reports provided in the club and less so in the regular fishing report forum open to all members. The higher quality fishing report reserved for the club of course. If you want fishing reports around your area, I would Join Now, some of the clubs are starting to fill fast. Use the Fishing Reports Club link in the Menu above (after you've posted a fishing report in the regular area forum) and request to Join.

Just a note to everyone...there are currently NO bait stores open in the town of Baudette, and I was only able to find crawlers at Log Cabin Bait on Saturday, but dont rely on just that...they had a TON of sturgeon fishermen looking for bait. If you are coming from the east, Holiday gas station in Warroad had crawlers today.

Hey Frenzy, Mark and his sons all fished the Pike tourney this weekend so I'd guess that's why they were closed.
I seriously doubt that Steve at Log Cabin Bait will be running out of crawlers till fall.
Conoco in Baudette has bait as well.
fiskyknut

Lip RIPPER!

Out of business? Wow! I can't believe it would be for a lack of business. The sign on the door said closed temporarily on Sat. when I went through there.

Boat pooling will be pretty popular by the looks of gas prices.
Let me know when you want to go. I'm looking forward to that trolling lesson.

I brought my boat up to the Angle to get wrenched on this weekend, so I'm out of commision for a while, till opener anyway.
Needed a new starter, and some other elecrical issues...
One of these years, I want to try that sturgeon thing, I've caught them by accident many times, but never set out for them.
I think a few of us are heading for some trout fishing this week if the ice cooperates.

Out of commision till opener... what? Is'nt that the end of June for you! If you want to give it a whirl I could maybe sneak you into a boat one of these days. I caught 11 last nite in an hour and a half, and others were kicking them better than us! Dnr guys are out there taking fish from anglers and tagging them too.....They were busy!

Fisky:
No he promised it to me by the May 15th opener.
I'd be open for a afternoon of sturgeon anytime.
I have a hard time understanding why anyone would want to keep one of those critters. A big one of those must have a lifetime supply of Mercury in them. There is much better table fare in my opinion.

Cool, when and where you guys gonna do the trout thing then? Do you smoke your lakers? YUM! I've eaten some Sturgeons that were smoked and it's not too bad, I much prefer Salmon and Trout. Would'nt want to eat gobs of it though thats for sure! As for preparing/eating them other ways? I know folks that steak them out and broil, grill, bake and even fry it, but I have'nt tried it!
Fisky

I'm sworn to secrecy on the Trout thing.
You think Musky guys are bad about being tight lipped... These trout guys are in a league all their own!

Hate to interrupt the conversation but 11 Sturgeon in 1 1/2 hours Fisky. That had to have been one heck of a time! Why do I live so far away?

Hanson, twas fun indeed. Sturgeon are pretty darn easy to catch at this time of year if you're on the right spot. All my fish that day were wee ones from 2 to 3 foot. The spot we fished only had a couple other boats on it and they were doing well too, the crew closest to us boated a 51 and 57. As long as you're not anchored over a swarm of Burbot the Sturgeons will find your bait!
fiskyknut

I bet those sturgeon are fun. I took a guided trip out to the Colombia River in Portland, OR when I visited my brother and we fished for the big fish out there. We fished for 2 days and caught over 2 tons of fish. The big ones run 7-9' long and up to 400 lbs. or so. Those were some nice 30 minute fights with big poles and 80lb test line. I think a Lake Sturgeon on 15 lb test would be a riot. Too bad I can't make it up now as I just took a few days off for turkey hunting. Happy fishin up there!

Pat, July is my best time for walleyes in the weeds! I did not cast spinner baits but did pull spinners with 1/2 crawler right along the edges in about 3' to 4' deep water. We were so close to the boat with our lines that we could see our spinners and actually see the walleyes charge out of the weeds and grab our baits! FUN!! Now, thanks to the rustys, those cabbage weed beds are gone. Cliff

That's the plan. I'e gotten checked quite a few times this winter. It's good to see them out. Watched them get a couple guys last Thursday for too many lines, too many and illegal fish and using jawjackers... Sure is good seeing some of our money at work. Silly thing is the officer checked me 1st, then walked 50 yds to the other guys... can' fix stupid I guess.

Years back I took my brother-in-law behind Anselmo's (SP?), northwest of Jacobson Point in Head-o-Lakes Bay. I was looking for Muskie along the front of the cabbage. He had no gear so he rigged a small to mid-size in-line spinner bait with a white twister tail. He pulled it across the top of the cabbage beds. I was totally surprised when he caught several walleye. I wouldn't be so surprised if he was fishing in front or down in the weeds but he was basically catching on a surface lure in 3-5' of water in July.

Nice. I made my own like that a few years ago but without the usb port. Can run a fan, light, charge phones etc. They are very handy.

Frozen ones work better in my opinion anyway. Haven't bought a live one in 10 years.

We made a day trip a couple of Sundays ago. Fished from about 9:30 to 3:30 and my kid caught 2 walleye- 21" & 25" with a tag. In the past two winters I've made a total of 3 day trips and have a total of 10 walleye from 19-25 inches. I think the numbers may not be a may, but the quality is great. Very similar to the late 90's not as many fish, but great size.

no live ones that I know of just frozen ones. I heard the run started good than the rain came and dirty the river and moved em back out into the lake.
