No it was my brother who caught it on a little fly fishing jig. And he sent the one pic to me asking wtf is this lol. And thank you.

Could be?  Have to see if it is a toothy little critter.

Not sure if there is any smelt in Wright county lakes though?

First thing I thought too.  Here's one a lake trout left behind.

If a lake trout ate it, it probably is a smelt or Cisco. Both are found in deep trout waters.

I can't tell if it has a second dorsal fin or not based on those pictures, it could be laid down onto the back. But from the looks of it to me, I think its a Brook Silverside. We sample these in central MN streams and the Mississippi River. If you were in Wright County, definitely within its known range. Just a thought based on the pictureImage result for brook silverside in MN
