Who let's their wife or girlfriend go out on the ice with them? lol I do! What kind of boots would work best for a cold footed gal like mine? She has an old pair of el cheapo's and I need to get a new pair for her.

How about the guys? What are you wearing?

Lacrosse hunt pac for us. They only come in men's, but I got her the smallest size they come in (8). A little big for her but she just wears thicker socks.

We both used to get cold feet - these boots are crazy warm. Only complaint is they are pretty bulky, but it's a small price to pay for warm feet.

I am wearing a pair of cabelas breaks boots with 1200 grams of insulation. I had a pair Irish setters but I wore the bottom off after 12 years. It sucks having huge feet.

for your lady it comes down to will she be walking in them or sitting? If she will be mostly sitting and fishing a pack boot like my brother got with 2000 grams of insulation

I wear lacrosse ice kings. Warmest boots I have ever owned. They might make a version for women.

Yes they do make then for Women. My wife has them and I have the Ice Kings. Great for all day on the ice or below sledding.

Cabela's Predator Extreme!

Warmest boot that I have ever worn!

Get 1 size larger then you usually wear! Bulky but very warm while sitting on the ice or deer stand!

Steager Muclucs are by far the best I have ever owned. Right now I'm wearing Muc Boots arctic sports with a thermacell liner for those break the chill moment.

I have purchased the thermacell for my daughter as well. Increased the enjoyment of hunting/ice fishing x100

Just picked up a pair of these a couple weeks ago.  On sale, $60 off retail.  Pretty happy with them and haven't even thought about my feet when wearing them.  I expected them to feel a little clunky but took the chance.  I don't think they're clunky at all.  I've pulled my ice gear for hundreds of yards and the only problem I had was having a rub at the top of the liner on my leg due to not having high enough socks on.  I cured that problem, now all is well.  Cliff is right, get 1 size larger than you normally would.

A woman recommended these boots to me if that tells you anything you want to know.

Mukluks have been my favorite in the past too.  I bought my wife a pair but she doesn't move around enough when fishing outside to make them work like they should.

I also went the Thermacell route a couple years ago for my insulated rubber boots for wet conditions.  It's really nice to click em on with the remote and get toasty toes again.  A great option for staying warm in smaller, less insulated boots.

I bought the PAC boots noted above partly because I lost track of the Thermacells after our move.  But like usual, I found them again two days after in my fishing coat that I hadn't worn this season yet!

Instant 100 or 110deg heated insoles with the tap of a button. IMG_4456.JPG

the only problem is if you loose the remote your up a creek. Each pair of insoles is paired to a remote at the factory. Lose one the other is worthless.

I use them primarily for my waders in the fall, but they are great for when your sitting still in the deerstand or fishhouse too. And easy to shut off when your active.

You'd think they'd make a darn easier remote system. That's a lot of coin to lose in one whack lol

It's so you and everyone around you can have a set and only control your own. If they went to a cheaper radio remote system then only one person in the house would have control of everyone else.

There is a less expensive model that doesn't use a remote but you have to obviously take your boot off to turn it off/on.  I didn't want to do that even though they're thermostatically controlled.

I wanted to be able to manage the battery life better with the remote.

Funny thing was I never lost track of the remote - just the insoles for a while!!!

Lol yeah I can see us losing that dang thing, but maybe not. I think buying something like that would make you keep track of it lol.  She does have a bad case of cold feet, maybe the insoles would be better than any boot could do for her anyways.

I bought the black pair at least 2 years ago, shortly after they hit the market.  I think there were 3 different models ranging from $99 - $179 if memory serves.  Non remote, remote with on/off (Neighbor guys), remote with high/low/no heat and removable batteries (the black ones I posted).

Not sure what might've changed in the past couple years but that's what I remember.

Nothing says I Love You better than expensive gifts. :D  They'll like 'em.

They might even like them better than some jewelry!  Maybe not diamonds though.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
