Spring Bobbers.

I had the tip break off my st. Croix last year. so I took the spring bobber bracket and put it on a Guide Series extreme rod. I like it better then the st. Croix.

Anyone every use the DH Custom Pannie Drop'r Hybrid Noodle? It is the Al Dente blank but the first two inches are replaced with a built in NiTiCo wire? I recently broke my go to spring bobber rod and Want to replace it with this.

Yes, unfortunately. You can buy different springs, but you have to either buy their proprietary rod or rig something up like above to use them.

I brought my rod in there bought their spring bobber they have different ones to choose! They installed on my rod looks factory!! Wasn't very expensive about $15 complete!!

I had two rods done and had one break off after a half dozen trips on the ice.  I know rhey $do fix it for me but just never seem to get back down there often.

I will not go on the ice without my St. Croix Legend  spring bobber rod. aka St Croix Silver now. i have two of the three different springs for different jigs or small spoons. Great rod. i am comparing it this year to a new Tuneup custom bullwhip i just got.

How about the Beaver Dam line of titanium tip rods? Anyone have any experience with these? Looks like a good flasher rod.

I have one and I can catch fish with it but I don't like it

The pull out spring bobber sounds like a good idea but it almost makes it feel cheap and like its loose I can kind of feel its not solidly connected at the tip if you understand what I mean. and I feel that the spring is too long it droops way down with small tungsten jigs. For the money I would go with the Dave Genz Spring Bobber Ice Combo

 

I do have two beaver dam glass noodle rods and they are awesome and the reels they come with are pretty nice as well.

still love my setup for bluegills but not the best when I use a size 10 jig and fishin for crappies. I might grab the clam springs and rig a rod up with the wire thats a little stiffer and see how it works. this would just be for deep fish.

My dad figured out how nice a st croix legend is last weekend. Has asked a couple times where he can get one with a reel like what I had.

I am not sure how I like the St Croix spring bobbers 

I have been fishing with a St Croix lately and for the jig I am using I don't need the spring pulled out all the way and been having issues with the line getting into the spring that is sticking out on the one side. I Fixed it by cutting the spring so now it is flush with the rubber that holds it. But every once in a while I will get the line stuck in the other side now.

 

Don't ask me what I am doing but usually it happens when I set the rod down to take off a fish or something.

When your line gets in there good luck getting it out it is a pain in the you know what.

 

I was hoping that the rod would satisfy me but it just does not but I picked it up from a guy at work for 25 bucks so I guess that is hard to beat.

 

I will be ordering one or two Pannie drop'r from DH customs as I like those style spring bobbers the best

I own a dozen Beaver Dam rods.  They are better then anything I have ever found.  The spring bobber  retracts into the blank for protection so that spring does not break off in transport.  I have used these rods from everything from perch and bluegills to lake trout and Winnipeg greenbacks.  They definitely can handle anything.

No I out brand new line when I put the reel on it I just happen to have slack out enough and not pay attend in and it gets in the spring I guess just not for me

ZachD, I have had that happen to me a couple of times as well. It's frustrating for sure. I end up having to cut my line and remove the "scrap line" from the spring and retie my jig. That being said, I do like my St. Croix Silver spring bobber rod. I do use it almost all the time for panfish, but I am starting to look at some of the "noodle rods" that have a very light/sensitive tip and decent backbone. That way there is no spring bobber needed.

The Throne bros Tripwire Spring bobber is made by Thorne.  It is a titanium wire with a REC guide tied on the end. Obviously, being titanium, they are indestructible.  They have 3 "sensitivities" of TW's. One the works well with 4mm jigs and under (Yellow), one the works with 4mm and up (red/pink) and one for Perch or small spoons (can't recall the color).

 

I have built 3 rods with the TW's.  The nicest thing about the TW is that when matched with the right weight jig (not overpowered) they act just like an extension of your rod, you don't lose much action on your jig yet still have that ultra sensitive indicator of a bite.  

 

I would post a picture of mine but I am quite honestly the worst cosmetic guide tier on earth.......I build them for purpose not beauty....

 

I think they charge about $12 per spring.  Not sure what they charge to put them on.  But trust me, it is worth it.

what about how the line placed on the reel??  years ago that was big thing.  just wondering and I think it still can help, possibly.

That would definitely cause a problem with the line being very twisted and tangling in the spring, but I've encountered the problem with new line out of a straight line reel too. It happens, and I agree it sucks, but retie and get back to catching fish.

I knew I wasn't alone it is frustrating as heck especially when the fish are biting like crazy that's usually when it happens to me.

I used to use these and would wind the line in them once in awhile. grrrrr!  LOL
