Mid August Fishing Report

Recommended Posts

In the past week the fishing has started to pick back up, especially during the late morning and afternoon.  Fishing shallow has still produced the best action in 8-15ft of water early in the AM and in the evenings as those fish are actively moving around and moving up to feed on small perch in  most cases.  Targeting them with slip bobbers, lindy rigs with crawlers, jigs, or even casting rippin raps or small crankbaits at times.

As the morning goes on and into the afternoon, focusing on windblown shoreline breaks in 18-25ft of water has produced well pulling crawlers or chubs on lindy rigs or utilizing reaction bite style baits such as jigging rap to provoke fish into biting.  What has been promising this past week is we are seeing more and more larger schools of walleyes as well as some big pike and walleyes mixed in.  If not fishing shoreline breaks, look to fish the bars and humps in 20-30' of water.

Walker Bay has been overall pretty good this past week with the Main Lake still producing fish, but having to move around and fish alot more spots.  The Crankbait bite is still the most consistent bite on the Main Lake.

Muskies continue to show themselves with anglers reporting fish hitting the net.  Small bucktails, top waters, and jerkbaits have been the best presentation when casting for the fish of 10000 casts.

Until next week

Made it out on Saturday and fished early morning into late afternoon. Got a 50" muskie in the first 3 minutes of fishing by pelican island rocks, what a sow,  really healthy fish.

Walleyes were not as cooperative, Tried many different Spots and didn't see anyone net. Finally got a pattern around 1 o'clock in the snake pits.  Trolled till you would see clouds of bait and work that area until you don't mark anything, ended up with 12 the next two hours. got wet in the rain but it was worth it.  Metallic orange raps caught our fish

Good luck
