Leeches

Was told by Cabelas and a few other places that they won't be receiving any more Leeches this year because they are having trouble trapping them already. Seems kinds early this year to be out of leeches I  remember getting them into September last year.. Anyone else think it seems early, or is early August the Norm?

Every thing seems to be about two weeks ahead of normal this summer!

We stopped at the favorite local bait shop Sunday & all they had available were mediums. They look more like what would have been called small a month ago

I see the same pattern every year late in the season. Small become mediums, mediums become Large, and large become Jumbo's. :(

No leeches here...friend brought some back from LOW for me and they were also pretty small but the bite was big on minnows last night so that's ok. Has anyone tried a live leech through the ice? I know you can keep leeches alive for months by changing the water was curious if anyone has tried them in the winter?

No, but I tried a crawler from my growing box through the ice on Mille Lacs once.  Nothing. :(
