When my husband passed away last fall his 80 brother didn't get a chance to come up and be with him. He has now decided to come up June 20-26 for probably his last fishing trip to Minnesota. I know I will take him out on Pokegama at least one day, but I am trying to figure some other lakes to try. I have fished Spider a few times and Wabana only once ( I live not to far from there) but I am looking for some other lakes to try. He used to be mainly a bass fishing guy, but we got him spoiled on Walleyes years ago. My boat is not very big, 16 foot Lund Rebel with just a 25 hp Mercury on it so I am looking for small to medium sized lakes up by me to try. Any suggestions would be helpful. We will be interring my husbands ashes at Fort Snelling during his trip which is going to be rough on both of us. I just hope I can show him a good time while he is here.

Sorry about your husband. Trout Lake in Coleraine would be worth a try. That time of summer, if you lindy rig crawlers and leeches you should catch a mix of walleyes (toward evening/sunset) and bass. Fish on the edge of cabbage beds along shore or some of the humps, which will be around 14 - 16 ft. If you like anchoring and slip-bobbering, a nice turn in a good weed edge is a good place to try that. It would be really helpful to spend an evening or two out there "scouting" before your brother-in-law comes up, and it's pretty important to fish through dusk or later to give yourself the best chances possible. Trout has always treated me better than Pokegama, easier nut to crack in my experience.

Splithand south of GR is a medium sized lake that is relatively easy to fish ... and when they're biting you can do well on walleye. At that time of year I'd use leeches on jigs, trolling slowly along shorelines in 10 - 15 feet. You'll get a few pike, too.

I decided to start with Pokie, then try Spider, maybe North Star, and maybe Trout in Coleraine. I usually like smaller lakes might even try Johnson for some crappies. Thanks for all the suggestions. He decided to come for 10 days that means I am going to have to start cooking meals again, bummer. Hope we catch a lot of fish cause that's whats for dinner.
