Diseased sunfish?

Recommended Posts

Sorry, don't see what you are concerned about.  What am I missing?

Ok maybe its just because i am new to the midwest. I have never seen a sunfish look like this. I was catching bluegill and pumkinseed and they were all very bright which is what i am a custom to. So this coloring is normal?

I don't know if it is normal.  There are various hybrids swimming around, too.   I wouldn't have thought much of it if I caught it.

I have caught some that look like this as well. I wouldn't be too worried like delcecchi said many hybrids swimming around

Could just be a genetic pigmentation issue or 'birthmark'

One sees people with birthmarks routinely. They're not sick.

Sunfish come in a pretty wide variation of color patterns, orange, green, blue, purple.... and so forth.

I have been fishing since i was a small child and i had just never seen a sunfish with such monocrome features. "Diseased" was the wrong word to describe it. I was thinking it was albino or something of that sort. Thought it was very interesting beautiful little fish. Thanks to everyone for all the feedback. Really enjoying Minnesota.

Keep fishing, and I am glad you are enjoying the lovely state.
