It's been a while since I've ice fished on Lake George and was going to give it a shot this weekend, Has anyone been out on the ICE?  Hows the fishing been?

Was out there a few days back 4-5 inches of ice, 3 hours on ice, caught nothing but did mark fish.

My son and I hit lake George yesterday. Went out of the main access. walked out just a bit left from the landing and went out to the first break. Steady 4"-5.5" of ice. Were a few houses that came out during the day after we were set up. Marked fish but no biters. Everyone that I could tell walked out as well as us.

Thanks for the update @Marshall. I think the slow bite you speak of is happening on many lakes from what I am hearing.

Was out there the other day- a good 5 inches of ice, did not take 4 wheeler. It was a long haul to the deeper water. Will take 4 wheeler the next time!!!. Crappie fishing was slow, was able to catch a few that I kept for a meal. Tried different baits / jigs. ended up with best luck with a plain red hook and small minnow.

Good Luck- be SAFE

  • 4 weeks later...

Was out on George Yesterday, Not much luck, talked to a couple others out fishing- same results.

Trucks  / cars driving all over the lake and some, not real slow.  I only had 10 inches of ice where I was at.

Sure was nice out there this weekend, but it wasn't making any ice !!!

Good Luck

Be Safe

I hit George yesterday, solid ice, not a lot of people out. I found a couple schools of crappies, nothing worth bragging about but fun to catch. Lot of 7-8 inchers

They were showing not to hook it so it hangs straight down or straight to the side but at 45 degrees. Not sure if it made that big of a difference but caught a bunch of crappies

Not sure where to post this to get information so I thought I could post here and let Moose and Finn point me in the right direction. I am looking to possibly add Navionics to my arsenal , Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of Navionics and what the true cost of it is and a little about the year to year updates. Can you put in waypoints and do you lose those when you do the updates ? Thank you in advance for any help that anyone can give me.

Weathertite- I'm just at the end of the free trial period. I did a search in the forums but could not come up with anything. Googled it and found out a few things about it - but most comments were from boaters. Interested in any additional info.or forum to go to. Maybe start a new topic ???

Thanks

This is the only lake contour GPS map I use. In my opinion it is the best least expensive on the market and very effective. On lakes that are mapped with geological mapping data (most popular lakes) they equal LakeMaster because both use the same mapping source. Last weekend at Ottertail my Son's LakeMaster and Boating had almost exact contours. On lakes not so popular, they use DNR contours and fill in the 1' contours so they are as good as the paper maps you can buy at sporting goods stores. LakeMaster does not include these lakes on their $150 chip that now only runs on Humminbird.

Cost is $9.99 for a year, first year and $4.99 per year for following years. Once you buy you can load as many devices as desired. Example, I have it on my Android smart phone, 7" tablet and an older smart phone all for $9.99. I mostly use my 7" tablet, bigger screen and an all day battery run with good GPS.  Same will apply for iPhone products. You do need a GPS chip in whatever device you use so when buying a Tablet make sure it has GPS built in. iPads do not have GPS chips so you need the iPad with cellular.

Way points, Tracks, Routes are all possible and remain on your phone memory separate from the actual map stay on your map there during updates.

GPS tracking refresh is a bit slow, Navonics is aware of this are  in regression testing on the software update.

Some Sonar units (Lawrance, Vexiler SonarPhones) link to this app  that allow you to cruse around a lake in summer and create your own contours. Also updates come out almost daily. If you link you app to Navonics, they may use your personal contour map to update their maps. I actually seen this happen last summer on Coon Lake.

Liked it, but was a little afraid of escalating costs. After reading through the forum and Papa's reply

I will be going for it.

Thanks Papadarv for the info

Good luck

SSGMonte - what size gulp are you using on your jig?   That is interesting as I kicked but last summer on 2.5" gulp on 1/64th jig(very small jig I know)  Loved the purple head with chartreuse gulp.  The bass really liked them also LOL
