Miltona capped over last Friday night. Not much activity yet but I did see a wheeler with a portable in the bay this afternoon.

Thanks Eagle.  Much appreciated.   I'll give an ice report this weekend, and a fishing report if lucky...

5 inches 200 yards out. Saw 1 small wheelhouse out today.  Shaking and popping going by...  A few wheelers and portables.   2 small eyes. 16 foot break. Be safe all.

There's a few houses mid-lake but not many. I drilled some holes this morning and found 8-10 inches of hard ice mid-lake 3/4 mile out. There was one small wheel house out in that vicinity.

Thank you for the update...is there a portion of the lake that froze last if anyone knows? Id be going out of the north/north east access...

From what I could see, the entire lake capped at the same time. On Friday the ice was consistently 7" to 7-1/2" from the access to the middle. There is getting to be more and more wheel houses out but I am waiting for another inch.

Tons of little perch everywhere and the walleyes have all been less than 12".

Good luck and be safe.

Can a car get onto the ice at the north access? I forget the name of the resort...I know the hill access on north east side is too steep and usually a large heave

Fished from 11:00 to sundown. Caught 4 eyes during the day. Kept 2, 17", 18" in 30 fow. Found a random pod of 10-11" perch on the first hole I drilled in 12 fow, got a few for the table. Set up for eyes in the evening on a top of a shelf in 15' that drops down to 26. At last light the perch flew off my Marcum screen, and I knew it was game on. Within 2 seconds my rattlin flyer was crushed! Had to let the drag loose as my rod was bent like St. Louis' gateway arch. She ran 3 times before I got up to the hole. Thinking I had just about landed my personal best walleye, up came a fat 30" northern....was still fun.

By the way what's with the tight cluster of houses straight out from the access fishing in 8 fow. They are always there, so I had to give it a try. Just a bunch of little perch. Is this a spot notorious for something different? There were a few tip ups out...

I think many people fish that spot for pike and/or spearing.  In the summer there is a nice weed line that holds a lot of fish.  How thick was the ice on Miltona?

maybe 18"

Is this across the whole lake? Would like to drive with the house out. Haven't been up around there for a month or so

I was out a good ways, so I would say yes. Just a minor pressure ridge on the north side that extends a few hundred yards.

I know the 2 other accesses are pretty bad, I am bringing a 1/2 ton and wheelhouse up on Friday and am worried about how to get on. Is the heave easily crossable? Any other good places to get on? Is ice pretty consistent there, we are just coming for the night. Thanks

Anyone ever try to catch Tulibees on Miltona? Looking to switch things up when we head up there again next weekend. I was hoping to chase them during the day and then set up for walleyes in the evening. Anyone else catching any decent size walleyes? We were up there a month ago and we caught around 30 walleyes. Only one was 14", the rest were between 10" and 12". We have caught some nice ones in years past, but this year all we are catching are dinks. Thanks for any input on the eyes and tulibees.

Can a guy walk out 3/4 mile from north access? How much ice in the middle of the lake, or anywhere? Thanks for any info hoping to get out Monday.

The lake iced over the morning of the 11th. As of Monday evening there was 5" to 7" where I checked. Lots of snow on the ice so it hasn't made ice as you would have expected during the bitter cold. A few small wheel houses out.

brrr,

Google MN DNR Lake Finder, search for Miltona, then click on "Public Water Access" in the drop down menu.

Good Luck!

Trucks with wheel houses driving pretty much all over. Ice is 16" in most places but of course no ice is ever 100% safe. There is quite a bit of snow on the lake again with some really hard ice drifts from the Christmas ice storm. Access on the NE corner is difficult with a wheel house. I would recommend the Sandy Beach access on the north side. Good luck.

brrrr,  Sorry if my response wasn't helpful.  It sounded like you were asking how to access the lake and didn't know where the accesses were located...

Good luck, let us know how you do.
