Anybody still on the Croix? I might be heading that direction this weekend, but I have no idea how much (if any) ice is out there right now. Any local reports would be appreciated.

I was out yesterday. Found plenty of ice for my F150. Did not mark less then a foot of ice. Bite wasn't as good though.

Hearing the bite sucks is really disheartening. I'd like to get out at least once this year for Crappie, Walleye, or Sturgeon but these reports are unfortunate. I'll probably go anyways for the experience.

16" of ice out of Bayport today. Bite was slow, and most crappies were dinks, but did bring a couple back for dinner.

How thick is the ice now? I may go out tomorrow around Bayport for Crappie. If it's not safe I'll just go to Demontreville.

Well, I'll answer my own question, seeing as I went out today. About 10-18 inches depending on where the holes were drilled.

Lots of open water up in Stillwater right now.  Looks to be a very early ice-out this year.

Ice this year looks bleak. I will give the ice report in a few weeks. We are looking at the 3rd week of Dec. as I see it.

Here we go with the cold. I think we will have some reports of fishing on ICE in about a week and a half. Next week is below zero every day almost. The Croix might be fishable. Will keep posting everyone!

Hello....This is the first ice report. I went down to Ferry landing on Sat. 12/10 2016....before any snow. I found 2 inches and it seemed to freeze over all at the same time which is always good. This new snow Sat. night was not good. it's light yes but, you can't see a dam thing for ice. I for one am not going out there until next Sat. and I will give another ice report then. 12/17/2016. A side note, people were fishing all over Sat. afternoon on Linwood, Coon and other small lakes around there. 3 inches is what people told me at the landing on Linwood. Anyway, chat again in 6 days.

Will have to wait a few more days before trying the river then.  With this cold we're getting this week should have enough for walking by the end of the week. Would of been nice if we didnt have any ice before this last snow make it easier to see cracks/sketchy areas.

Well...went down and checked the ice. Drilled 3 holes and found 5 to 7 inches of ice. There was 2 portables in shanty town. A bunch across from Bayport beach. I didn't fish because of the wind but, wasn't going to not check the ice. The Ferry landing however has some issues. I took 2 pics. To get on the ice just walk toward the south about 50 ft and the shore only is about 2 ft from the edge of the ice.

Fished 4 hours this am. 2 small crappies was it. Ice is about 5-6 inches, booming and cracking pretty good with the warm up. A couple wheelers out, mostly walkers.

Fished all the way on Wis side in 15 FOW right by shore/ north of shanty town. Did ok for walleyes/ catfish. Deadstick a shiner minnow for best results. There was only me and one other house in the region.  Found 6 inch of solid ice. Need spikes forsure or else will have a hard time staying upright.   Landing is rough to get gear up the icy hill as you won't have much traction to pull your gear up.

Just drove down to the landing, a few 1/2 tons were out on the ice, Their nuts. Most were using wheelers or walking.

The thing I hate most about the river is everyone drives 50 mph. I'm on Mille Lacs now and everyone seems to be keeping it below 10.

It's true, people were driving out on the river yesterday, but the ice is melting quickly and the current has picked up.  The snow cover is gone and there is about 1" to 2'' of standing water.  This extended warm weather has me worried.

Personally, I think vehicle traffic is "Iffy" now.  Be careful.

I'm hoping someone has some recent intel on ice conditions on the Croix between Stillwater and Hudson. How bad did the warm spell mess up the ice?  People still able to drive out?  I'd like to swing by this weekend. Any information would be appreciated.
