Minnesota Fishing Report Clubs - ONLY 20 FREE MEMBERSHIPS Per Area - Join Today - FREE   03/08/2018

Fishing Minnesota has added a new menu item (see above) called Fishing Report Clubs. It's a way to keep the really good fishing reports coming and being shared only with those who also provide detailed fishing reports. We will only approve new members who request to join if they have already posted a recent fishing report in the area forum, associated with the Fishing Report Club area  you want to join. Initially we are going to limit the number of regular memberships, in the Fishing Report Clubs, to the top 20 members in each Club, to those with the best frequency and quality fishing reports provided in the club and less so in the regular fishing report forum open to all members. The higher quality fishing report reserved for the club of course. If  you want see detailed fishing reports/tips  around your area and will share your detailed fishing report as soon as you join, then Join Now! Some of the clubs are starting to fill fast. Use the Fishing Reports Club link in the Menu above (after you've posted a fishing report in the regular area forum) and request to Join.

You know what we all love...

When you enchant people, you fill them with delight and yourself in return. Have Fun!!!

My friend, Stefanie, is an associate producer of the film and is a rising star.    COLD NOVEMBER (2016)
Set on the Iron Range, Cold November follows 12-year old Florence through her first deer hunt, a traditional rite of passage in her Minnesotan family. With the guidance of her mother, grandmother, and aunt, Florence discovers and accepts the path she must take toward adulthood while living through the aftermath of a recent family trauma.

Cold November is being made in Northern Minnesota and needs some help from Minnesotans.  They are conducting a KickStarter Campaign for $25,000.

I like to watch these kinds of movies to see if they portray a love for hunting or Anti-hunting?  I looked up the actress Bijou Abas and found this movie cover-picture.  So may be they made something?

Just found this on-line. Looks like it's coming out next week?

Plot synopsis:
“Deep in the wilderness of rural middle America, 12-year-old Florence is eager to undergo the rite-of- passage of her first deer hunt. A tradition passed down through many generations of women in her family, the act of killing a deer symbolizes the transition into adulthood. As Florence is taught how to shoot a gun and skin a deer, she gains a deeper understanding of life and death. When Florence finds herself alone during a hunt, however, expectations dissolve into chaos as she must rely on her instinct and training to follow through with her decisions, pull herself together, and face becoming an adult.”

Let’s hope the little girl will make it out alive!

The release date of the movie Cold November is set to October 20, 2017.

On the last day to target predator species during this Ice Fishing season I went out on Lake Vermilion. I setup for the morning on a break where I usually catch Walleye's with a few Yellow Perch mixed in but on this outing I caught mainly Jumbo Perch! Plus one bonus fish that took me over 4 minutes to get up the hole...

      Hey guys and gals!
I was wondering what kind of fish is this? I was thinking they were redhorse suckers or something but I am not 100% sure! I have been catching them out of the Mississippi and don't know if they are invasive or what the heck they are because they smell god awful!

Greetings fishermen and women! Its great being back in the swing of things and better yet in the boat! Both the MN and Ontario season is now open and fishing has been great! Staffers here at Flag Island Resort have been busy getting ready for the upcoming summer months with some deep cleaning, window washing, grounds work and remodeling!
On the Minnesota side anglers have been catching nice saugers, walleyes and perch. Soon the crappies should be finding their way into the shallows around Angle Inlet and other small creeks and the walleyes have spawned out over the past couple of weeks. With the warmer temps that started out last week anglers were finding fish in shallower water between 5-17 feet now, with the cooler temps, rain and winds most of the fish have been pushed deeper into the 16-26 foot range. Points and reefs close to large land masses adjacent to sand and rubble have been hot locations. Anglers have found fish near Soldier’s, Little Oak, Oak Island and NW Point. The water surface temp has been in that 50-55 degree range. Right now it seems like everything is working from ¼ to 3/8 jigs to slow trolling with raps in the shallows as well as trolling spinners keeping on the move at 0.9 mph.
Over in Ontario, the walleye, sauger, crappie, perch and pike have been hungry. Perch and crappie should be spawning soon. Crappies are being caught around the 20 foot mark . Sandy bays and points have been best for the walleye and crappie bite while the perch are still caught in the rocks. Many pike have been caught in areas with current. There have been reports of a lot of smallmouth mixed in with the walleyes.  Jigging with a ¼-3/8 ounce jig has been the ticket and the water temp has been around 49-52 degrees.
We hope to see you up here soon!
Until next week, good luck fishing!

Hey all,a little update for you on how things are going up here in the north land. After extensive flooding with the other resorts on the creek and some help from some heavy equipment we now have a suitable crossing on the lake side of the point! We began hauling houses out today and are excited to get fishing soon! If anyone has an itch to get some early ice fishing in we have a couple houses out now and plan on bringing the rest of the fleet out over the next couple of days. The ice in the first couple miles past the crossing is quite rough but there's smoother ice after about the 2 mile mark on the trail. The early reports of the fishing from the first few days is decent in the 20-23' of water range jigging with frozen shiners. Happy fishing everyone and we can't wait to see you on beautiful Lake of the Woods!

Hey, I'm heading up to Ely over the 4th of July and plan on fishing Shagawa for some walleye.
I've fished it a number of times in the winter and done pretty well. Is the summer bite typically okay?

Well, it's Friday, March 18th.  It looked like the warm weather this past week was going to put an end to my favorite time of the year to ice fish, but it hasn't ended.
Last night temperatures dipped into the mid 20's and tonight we'll be be seeing temps around 20.  I bet tomorrow morning a guy will have to use an auger to reopen holes.
Yep, I'm crazy...crazy about fishing.  Get your waders on, fill a 5 gallon bucket with everything you need, and get out for the last weekend.  When you wade out to the ice and crawl on, I bet you tell yourself, I should've been doing this in the past.  It's awesome to be alive!
      Tight lines!

I'm going to be on Big Pine for the first time ever over Memorial Weekend. I'll be up with wife and kids, just hanging at a friends cabin. My fiend has no boat, so I'm pulling mine up. So just wondering if there are any dangerous areas. Don't want to wreck my prop on maden voyage. And also wandering what the walleyes are doing on a lake like this. Is it a fairly clear body of water, or stained. Can I catch fish during the day or only low light times. Any info, would be nice. I don't want your secret spots just some general info. Even panfish info for the kids, although my kids can catch walleyes with most adults. They still like to catch panfish when the eyes are finicky.....

Good Job Nice Fish good luck out there tomorrow.  Would of joined you guys but tomorrow is a true Trophy hunt shooting for a !0 1/2 or better.  Got plenty of 9-10 inchers lately so let the hunt begin.   Might be setting the bar high as I normally do  but the lake I'm heading to has a restricted limit and has some real brutes. Ive done it before  here so I know its doable. Hope my day goes as well as yours did

Bite was tougher today but managed some very pretty fish. Trying to perfect getting pics with the cell phone and then editing them. I love crappie eyes and the color of some bluegills. My favorite fish on the planet.

Not to get off topic and bring up that other lake, but I think lower limits and slots are going to be more and more common. I think Mille Lacs is a great example. That lake is packed all winter with a 1 fish limit. If that is keeping people away I’d hate to see it if the limit was 4! Small lakes need these slots even more as they can get fished out quick if the bite is hot.   In theory as long as you have those protected slot/spawning fish your fishery should be LOTW. The only exception would be multiple or many years of poor young year classes in which case you run into the Mille Lacs problem, which with regulation changes is rebounding nicely now.  Slots are NEEDED along with the willingness to reduce bag limits when needed. The problem with stricter regulations is the resorts and tourism industry has to be taken into consideration and whether you like it or not they will rarely want to see decreased limits or seasons shortened. Just my opinion.

I have to agree with what canopy Sam said I also have fished this lake for 40 year's when I started you basically caught what got through the nets lots of small walleye there was not much fishing pressure in the winter now you have down riggers covering a lot more water and catching not only walleye but they also get there saugers most of the time we have way more pressure in the winter I also remember the northern fisherman it was almost sad to see them dragging trophy northerns around the ice on the end of a gaff but I also think this is still one of the best fisheries any where I also agree there are not enough conservation officers out there are to many people that take over there limit they have no respect for the resource but the trash on the lake is a lot less then it was ten years ago this is my opinion not saying that I am right just my opinion.

I took a set of my mother's ear- rings and made lures out of them.. Do not remember if i ever caught anything on them. But they were flashy.

lakes like Ottertail Lake had 1000-1500 castles on it this year.  we are very concerned about pressure.  good points in this thread that could apply to many other minnesota large lakes.

I think everyone buying a wheel house and heading out for days at a time is what has really caused fish to move out of the area more than anything.  I think it would be interesting to have the major resorts track the fish cleaned by their guides summer verse winter.  It sure seems to me they take way more people out ice fishing than summer fishing.
    • gimruis
There may be way more pressure in the winter but the harvest is MUCH higher in the summer.  Fish are far more active and feeding heavily in the summer months than they are in the cold water months.  Plus in the summer there is this thing called hooking mortality.  The days of keeping 4 or 6 walleyes and 10 crappies are coming to an end.  Its unsustainable virtually everywhere including a large body of water like LOTW.
