2014 Rainy open water thread

Recommended Posts

April 1st, 2014:

We woke up this morning to at least 12 inches of fresh snow but the further east Grant drove the less snow they had gotten. Grant figures Birchdale got maybe about 6-9 inches of snow. But it is hard to tell because of the wind we had all day yesterday and most of today. Kuttes Landing in Pelland looked like it maybe got 2 inches of fresh snow. When Grant was plowing today he had seen it was 31 degrees and the sun was shinning but very windy today. Grant checked the River and it is open 8.7 miles east of Birchdale Landing. In 6 days the river opened 9.1 miles!! Kuttes Landing in Pelland has some thin shore ice that got blown in from the wind the last two days.

Here is a picture showing where the water stops at 8.7 miles east of Birchdale Landing:

Looking forward to be up there. I believe we will be able to fish Birchdale first week in April. Last year they were pushing boats out of there the last week in march.

Birchdale Historic Ice Out Dates:

'12 March 18

'11 March 22nd

‘10 March 9th

‘09 March 24th

‘08 was March 28th

‘07 was April 1st

‘06 was March 17th

‘05 was March 24th

‘04 was March 22nd

so if today is considered the first ice out date for Birchdale, I guess that makes it the latest in 10 years?

For the folks going up and fishing Thursday can you post the conditions ie: water clarity, debree, bite, and current speed???

I'll be heading up early Friday morning and hope to be fishing 4mile by noon.

Thx
