for a first time group I would highly recommend a guide like Jason. He can save you a couple of days of messing around trying to figure out a pattern. Lures and some techniques are different than you would be used to as well.

You are staying on the east side of the lake and the hot bite may be on the west side or near the middle of the south basin. The big thing up here is having the right machine to get around. Depending on the year you could be driving around in a minivan or it could be sleds or tracks only. You won't know till nearer your trip. Watch here for up dates on guys trips.

I've heard there getting some fish south of the casino 15 minutes on the river. Is that the Red? Is there parking there for pickups and snowmobile trailers

no it is not the Red. It is either the Brokenhead or Prudens creek. There is parking at both you may have to park up to a 1/2 mile or so. It is just a 2 track trail

Adam,

The Brokenhead River is just a short ditch ride north of the casino. Once you run the river and get to the mouth you'll still need to ride out quite a way to get to fish able water.

The fish are roaming quite a bit and there isn't any structure a glacial lake type would be looking for. A chip isn't going to help much unless you plan to travel far and want a map to know what river or part of the lake you're on. Otherwise you can just mark the mouth of the river on the way out and save way points of places you get fish.

Keep moving if you're not getting bit or marking fish. Even though they roam, for one reason or another some areas are better than others. I believe bottom content plays a big role.

Fishing is really starting to pick up. Still really cold, so dress for it! Slush forming around the ridges, some really good catches being reported!
