Opening Weekend

Recommended Posts

How was everyone's opening weekend? Mine was one for the record books. A big fat 0. Nothing like the other years. Not only were the birds few and far between but had absoutly no pattern. Keep on keepin on I guess for another week of scouting and hopefully get on the board next weekend.

Pretty slow over here as well. Yesterday saw a few birds but they were workin a field half mile away. Had one flock circle twice but we got busted and they buged out. Got one loner today and had one other take a look. Didnt see 1/4 of the birds we did yesterday. Funny thing is today we had the weather we beg for and dream of and almost no birds. Like you said theres always next weekend. THE 2013 HUNTING SEASON IS UPON US BOYS!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't even bother going out around Brainerd, I have seen a total of 12 birds in the air so far this year, I KNOW we had a very poor hatch the groups I saw fishing this summer were very small, the retriever grounds that we train on that normally produce large numbers 100 plus birds had single digits this year..

Slow weekend for me as well! Saw only one flock sunday morning and they stayed high. Sunday night only saw a few that gave us a quick look but didnt seem too interested. Than this morning went out with some friends and got 4 by 7:30 but then the farmer came out and said we needed to leave cause he needed to cut his fields today cause he was going out of town for a while. Thought that was a crappy reason but its his land so we didnt complain.

Of course as we were cleaning up the decoys we had 2 big flocks fly low right over our heads. But seeing the other reports, I dont feel as bad about my weekend!

Over the two mornings we hunted we shot a total of 26 birds with two bands. Pretty slow in the early morning due to precip. falling most of the time but whenever it stopped the geese started to really move.

Well that is pretty sad. Had a lot of good times, burgers and dinners up there snowmobiling and 4 wheeling.   www.grandrapidsmn.com/...hill...squaw-lake/article_aa3b5546-f7ed-11e7-b45d-c34d... https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjnv_rsyOrYAhUGEawKHV-ECfoQFghCMAM&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.grandrapidsmn.com%2Fnews%2Ffire-destroys-the-hill-bar-in-squaw-lake%2Farticle_aa3b5546-f7ed-11e7-b45d-c34d5b1f648a.html&usg=AOvVaw1LRiuHCFf3M7Xusreg7vdH

Well, check that one of the list. After trudging through the slush Saturday we were rewarded with a handful of undersized crappie. We'll have to try some of the options around Pelican next time. Happy, safe fishing everyone.

Beautiful weather on Sat and Sun. but plenty of traffic! No traffic today but still a very slow bite this morning. Could just be the weather change!??? Cliff

Heading to that area this weekend - Curious as too how much snow cover is on the area lakes, and whether it's even worth bringing the wheelhouse?

I spent 3 hours last Saturday morning working on “the catalog” then went about my weekend, planning to finish at the end of the weekend.  Went to open it up and the new laptop won’t make pictures on the screen.  Tried everything; no dice.  Have to return the piece of Black Friday junk.

Cliff, did you have a lot of vehicle traffic around you on Saturday? Maybe the bad fishing on Saturday was just the weather conditions, although Saturday was beautiful weather-wise.

Same here. Thursday was a good bite and the weekend bite was mostly a bust! Cliff

I think he's going to not wash it and keep telling everyone at the bait store and on the lake he's a Pro Staff on HSO & Outdoors Minnesota. Until someone sends him a HSO hoody or new hat!
