Pup/tick question

Shorelunch

Recommended Posts

I live in northern Minnesota and am picking up a lab pup in a week. Since we're prone to wood and deer ticks, do I use a Frontline type of product on a 7-8 week old pup?

What are your recommendations on when to start using a Frontline type of product? And do you recommend Frontline - or are the generic brands of Frontline/Advantix sold at discount retailers, etc, pretty good?

I know many have had good success with the Frontline - Advantix but my lab had a very bad reaction to it. I use Vectra 3D with no problems. I would check with your vet to see if it should be used that young. Maybe others can speak to the age.

Good Luck!

I also use Vectra 3D and am pleased with it. On the package insert is says for puppies 7 weeks and older. We previously used Frontline Plus but my dogs would still get a few ticks so I switched a couple of years ago. I believe they had to be 8 weeks or older but do not remember. Each product is different so it is important to read the label or talk with your vet prior to use, especially with a puppy.

Good luck and have fun with your new puppy!
