Rigging my leadcore rod

Question

Nathansdad

Got a new leadcore rod this spring now I want to set it up. Do I fill it with leadcore with 10' of fireline? How is yours set up?

I put 10' of fireline on when I fish dirty water, but for clear lakes I reluctantly switch it over to 50' of 10 pound mono for the visibility factor. I use mono instead of flouro to give just a little bit of stretch.

I think mine is spooled with a full spool of lead core then 10' of mono. I used mine mainly for salmon fishing in CO though so your mileage may vary.

I know some folks put a ton of backer on the spool then put 3 or 4 colors of lead core then finish off with mono or fire line.

Hopefully that helps a little.

I run 5-10 colors depending on reel size and 25-30' of 10/2 fireline leader...Longer leader lets me use them shallow to in the spring when fishing raps in 4-9' of water when I need a spare or extra rod...

It depends on what your fishing for, I have 2 set up one with 3 color, one with 5 color. I put a longer lead on the 3 color around 20-30 feet. That is to run in the 20 foot range. The 5 color I put a shorter lead so I don't snag up running in deeper water. You really need to choose a depth for each set up for it to work correctly. I run mono on the front and back side of the lead core. The lead core will not perform if you don't have some sort of regular line on both sides. A line counter reel will be a big help, if not experiment by counting how many passes on a bait caster style reel past the lead core. I am running the heavier lead core also...

I've got a spool of 18lb leadcore. Is that sufficient for walleye fishing?

KABETOGAMA FISHING REPORT AND TRAIL CONDITIONS  2/20/2018 SNOW SNOW AND MORE SNOW!!!! So our forecasted 3-7 inches turned into about a foot of snow in the last 24 hours and its still coming down!  Needless to say the trails are being groomed and are in premier shape.  If you can get up here, the next couple weeks should be awesome riding around the entire area.  Always check with the Park Service and local snowmobile clubs for the latest conditions. On to fishing……the walleye bite has slowed some but with the warmer weather coming through the weekend we should rap up the walleye and pike season with a bang.  Right now, 30-34 ft over mud seems to be producing the best.  Casey form Reef Runner Rentals and Voyageur park lodge is starting to move his houses onto the mud in preparation for what should be a fantastic late season perch bite.  We have some monster jumbo perch on Kab and the fishing can be fast and furious!  And don’t forget about our great crappie fishing.  Rumor has it they are biting but you need to explore a little to find them.  Generally the area around Ash River is a great place to start. Snowmobiling and fishing aren’t the only activities to take advantage of in Voyageurs National Park right now.  Snow shoeing, cross country skiing, the park service sledding hill and skating rink are just a few things to keep you busy in our winter wonderland.  We also have winter camping for the brave ones! It is absolutely beautiful out there right now.  Load up the bus and come visit us in Gods country! Gateway General Store

Does anyone by chance know of any resorts that rent cabins this time of year on any lakes in the faribault area. I love white Russians while sitting in my ice tent. But not so much the drive back through town to a hotel. Oh and of course there's the Busch lattes!
