July 4th fireworks

Recommended Posts

Is it worth driving to Annandale for the fireworks on July 4th or should I just wait until July 6th and hit Delano? We haven't been to either and would like to take the kids this year.

pros/cons?

It has been a few years since I've been to the Annandale fireworks, but I think they put on a decent display there. I haven't been to Delano so I can't compare.

Delano's fireworks are incredible! If I remember right, last year they went on for about a half hour.

Annandale has a good display as well, and there is a carnival on the street right there for the kids. You will not regret the trip.

Delano does put on a very good show for a smaller town. I have watched them over 30 times and they rarely disappoint. My Grandpa was the fire chief there for 35 years so we always got to ride on the fire trucks in the parade when we were kids and throw out candy. I could probably fill a book with stories on Delano's 4th of July celebration....good times.

Anyone been up to Duluth for the 4th? That's where we are headed this year......

I took my boat on pleasant last year to watch. I decided to troll for walleye until they started, and if you dont get there hours before the launches are full. Fishing was ok with some northerns a walleye and a few bass, but as soon as the fireworks started, they scattered. grin

I've seen both, and both are great displays. As mentioned, Annandale has a carnival for the kids, so if that's your thing, it makes for a nice celebratory atmosphere.

The thing I like about Annandale besides the fireworks and the carnival is watching from the water on Pleasant Lake. Anchoring the boat and taking in the fireworks from the water is an awesome night, in my opinion.

Getting off the water is a challenge though. I just wait until the landing is clear, rather than deal with the cluster-fark of boats right after.

I have watched fireworks from a boat before and the view is great. The drunken boaters scared me enough to never want to do that again.

p.s. this was not a local lake, but the July 4th crowd likes to celebrate.

workin'
