Fishing rum river above the dam

Is there an access that could handle my ranger boat? Then how far can I go without crunching bottom? Never fished it before a friend lives there, would like to get them on the river. Any info on River above Coon Rapids dam would help also.

You can launch at the county fairgrounds with no problem. You should be able to go upstream quite aways too. I fished it last year during low water and didn't find too many places under 5 ft in the channel.

Yes, the Rum river landing at the Anoka County fairgrounds can handle your boat. Years ago it was just dirt but now it is concrete double wide. You can go a few miles up-river before it gets too shallow. The whole stretch is a no wake zone 5-mph speed limit.

The Mississippi from the Coon Rapids dam up-river to the Champlin/Anoka bridge is no problem. Beyond the bridge up-river it gets shallow. The boat landing at the CR dam is closed all year due to construction on the dam. There's one on the other side of the river at Father Hennepin park in Champlin.

Be sure to fish Ron Schara's dock. He loves when people catch "his" fish.
