Rainy River Virgin

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, heard they closed the lake to ice fishing. Instead of cancelling and staying home I am bringing the boat and fishing the river for the first time. Staying at the Sportsman Lodge. My questions are as follows: Are jigs and shiners/rainbows the typical bait used? Do you just anchor down and jig or do you drift with the current? Do you catch those big sturgeon while jigging for Walleye or do you have to be set up for them? If so what lure/bait do you use to catch those monsters? What part of the river is going to have the best bite this time of year? Any other relevant info a first timer needs to know would be appreciated.

Tip 1 - purchase your jigs from the bait store up there. They have nice jigs for the river up there. Pink and White, Pink and Gold are two I'd grab.

If you're lucky, you'd be able to anchor and work them over. If they are not in there yet, then you'll be trolling back and forth long lining or vertical fishing a jig.
