LP Lanterns

Dave

Question

Anyone have the two mantle Ozark LP lantern from Walmart...how's it working?

Does two mantles on a lantern mean more light than a one mantle unit?

If you are looking for a lantern that puts off alot of light and heat ---

I've found the Coleman 'NorthStar' product to be the way to go. On warmer fishing days, I don't even need to light my other heater because the lantern takes care of me.

On high though, it does tend to chew through a fair amount of propane.

Overall, I am very happy with the product.

Yes two mantles will give off more light. I would be skeptical about on of the Ozarks they look pretty cheap to me. You can get the regular Coleman 2 mantle propane latern for about $30 w/ a hard side case. That is what I have and it has worked just fine for the last 3 years. The only thing that I have had to fix was the globe and the mantles. Dropping them doesn't really help though. You can find one of these at any Wal-Mart, Fleet Farm pretty much any where. Good luck.

If I saw correctly, the Coleman Northstar is a one mantle lantern. It maybe be a longer mantle thou. That's why I asked the question about one or two mantles being the brightest. Thanks for the info.

/i was wondering the same thing when I looked at it yesterday at Target. Is it worth the cost or do I stick w/ my current lanterns? I have a couple of old coleman propane. Also does the yellow globe come standard? The display model had a yellow globe but the box showed clear.

I recently got the new coleman 1 mantel lp lantern. It is a great little lantern. The small size means it can fit in my rod bag and it ran for over 10 hours the other day on one cylinder and still had fuel left. The best deal is the price, $17 at K-mart. They give plenty of light for my needs. Has anyone else tried these and what do you think?

Dave, the Northstar (large single mantle) is Coleman's brightest lantern including all their 2 mantle models.

I just got one of the real small lanterns the backpack model from Wal-mart single mantle seems to work good lightand fits in your boot upright so the mantle should last a long time and it is a double tie deal so should stay in place. Mine is a Colman and the package says it has a lifetime warrante for about 17$ didn't figure I could go to wrong.

The nOrth Star single mantel lantern does indeed put out more light then a two mantel white gas model. And when the igniter is set right, it will start the lantern amazingly fast.
It does suck propane on high. But it is adjustable.
Never the less, I still have my white gas double mantel coleman.
