How long a wait at the landing?

When you say that you can run it in a 5 gal pail is that deep enough to get the water pumping? I dont know where the water intake is. Any input would be great, my motor is a 1997 115 merc. Hope to be up there next Mon.

bak2MN, On the lower unit you will see Inlet holes or a screen looking area. Thats where the water will be sucked up.

ya you are definitely right. I can't do anything but shake my head at the folks that wait until it's their turn to take the straps off, put plug in, put rods in the boat, etc. You have to wonder what these folks were doing in line for the previous hour

And your right, get there earlier enough and you don't have to wait. That is what I have done in the past and will continue to do. Hopefully with vidas now open, it will take away some of the congestion from other ramps this weekend. If I see the pirate flag out there, I'll give ya a shout. Something along the lines of, "hey you, why are you taking so long to launch your boat" haha just kidding

Hunter, your motor (115hp) may be too big to get it started in a 5 gal bucket. Your prop, skag and lower unit all have to fit in a 5 gallon bucket for it to work, and that is a pretty tight fit for bigger motors. You'd be better off getting a garbage can and filling it up with water, or just getting muffs. You could take the prop off to get it to fit too, I don't think that would harm anything or even help

jwmiller33- I was just posting a Picture for bak2MN for his motor but your right a 55gallon garbage can would be best fitting for his motor. I was just helping him out identifying the intake on lower unit for him.

It's been maybe 10 years since I've been on the river in the spring. I remember it took about 2 1/2 hours to get in at Frontier one weekend morning the last time I went. If I were to come up tomorrow or Thurs. could I not reasonably expect to be in the water sooner?? Assuming I arrive at the landing early that is. Thanks!

Naw...it wasn't too bad yesterday (Thurs) morning. We got to Frontier about 7:15 a.m. and got right in. Getting out was a little different story in the afternoon with lots of people trying to beat the rain, but that's to be expected I guess.

We struggled trying to find fish that would cooperate. I thought the water clarity was pretty poor, but what do I know. Maybe that had something to do with it. I need to brush up on some things and I'll be back next year! It will be interesting to hear what kind of reports come in tonight.

I would guess that for the next week you could launch and park close with no wait. The debris in the river is brutal.

Back on April 10th when that was posted the debris was brutal and the water levels were at record highs. I am sure its back down with little to no debris. There also should be no wait at the landings either, except maybe on opening weekend.
