Can't go wrong fishing weedlines, but not too deep, fish will still be in relatively shallow, depending on the lake,6-12 ft is a general depth for lakes main weedlines. Can be fished livebait like suckers under bobbers or on live bait rigs, or cast lures like spinnerbaits, big rapalas, topwaters, crankbaits, etc. This can be a fun time of year because the bigger fish are still shallow, where later in the summer they will head deep and leave all the hammerhandles in shallow.

You can try in even shallower, too, for a bit. We caught most of our northerns on the opener in 3-6 feet of water over the emerging weed beds where the weed cover was thick. We tried in that range where the weeds were thinner & caught little.

The other ones were in the aforementioned 6-12 feet with anywhere from heavy to sparse weed growth starting to come up.

Hey Fishkid,

I've been finding there have been some quality pike out on the mid lake structure & along Deep break weed edges.

I suggest using a 3/8 oz Gumball Jig & small sucker minnow. Hit the water in the 16-24 ft range and this should put up some quality Big Fish for you.
