Pokegama Fishing Reports (Pine City)

299 posts in this topic

Looking for any sort of report from the Poke in regards to the bite and ice conditions, have not been there for a few weeks. Will be there this weekend.

Is there some sort of Fishing Contest in the area, was at Reds bait and think I remember Red saying something about there being one?

14" Ice biting by the island later afternoon was best. Waxies worked well in the morning and minnow and minnow heads on glow spoons 1/8oz caught 2 walleye both on minnow head banging the lure off the bottom and raising it up 12-18" they would shoot up from the bottom and smack it.

14" inches of ice on wednesday...think there will be 16-17 inches by Saturday? Any more snow cover on the lake over the last few days?

Was up on Saturday fished from 1200 to 600pm in about 18fow, caught about 30 fish, was only able to get 4 crappies that were keepers. Extremly light bite. There is around 16" of ice on the lake. No snow to talk about on the lake, may possible be the reason the fishing is not all that great. The noise from trk/cars moving is loud and travels a great distance further then when there is some snow cover.

Heading back up for Saturday/Sunday hearing some good reports from Cross just wondering if the Poke has picked up any. Brother-in-law and his kid are heading up also, would like to get the Kid on some fish, he is a true die-hard likes to stick with it even if they are not biting. Not enough kids under the age of 14 or so that enjoy the outdoors for what it really is!

I stopped fishing that lake this year but my buddy said hes been catching em but you have to move around a lot to get some keepers. Id just go to cross but if you do go there your best bet would to go in 16 to 18 fow o the south side of the island otherwise try the west side of it

Thanks for the update Fisherman45. It helps to know everyone is still driving, we're going to be getting up there early and wanted to make sure the ice was still holding up.

I was up there on sunday and there was still plenty of ice, but if you don't have good clearance you may get stuck. A few half tons were parked in as much of a road as there was and had to back out the way they came in. I'd guess there was a good 15" of ice or so but didn't measure it. Prob 10" of crusty snow

BTW the "no fish on my spots" was just a riff on Tom''s "no fish under my dock".  Sorry for any confusion.  I'm not much of a musky fisherman, so wouldn't know if there are or not, really.

It spit her out after the first bite..

Have heard of people getting bit before but that was a really nasty looking wound!! And some claim that Muskies do not like to eat walleyes! People must taste better! Cliff

My last trip to Mille Lacs I lost a big eye right before I saw it with the jiggin rap...Then 10 minutes later I hooked a 28.5" eye and that was the most scared I've been fighting a fish lol... Every head shake I was darn near dropping my rod tip in the water lol.

What kind of hand auger and shape is it in

Heard island lake was a hot spot. Any lure that resembles a small foot should work well.

I'd go with 112 if you have the room more power and I believe last longer on the water. I pilot is worth it. Spot lock to fan cast an area or to stay outside the dock that you just got broke off of are two benifits. I pilot link links up with your hummingbird unit if that's what you have for a depth finder. Let's you follow depth contours. Good luck with the purchases

sure odd to see the timberwolves mentioned in trade possibilities with the likes of a Kyrie Irving.

I just dont believe that to be a Esox bite at all. Too much space between the Major wounds, IMHO!
