Members Only Fluid Forum View   08/08/2017

Fluid forum view allows members only to get right to the meat of this community; the topics. You can toggle between your preferred forum view just below to the left on the main forum entrance. You will see three icons. Try them out and see what you prefer.   Fluid view allows you, if you are a signed up member, to see the newest topic posts in either all forums (select none or all) or in just your favorite forums (select the ones you want to see when you come to Fishing Minnesota). It keeps and in real time with respect to Topic posts and lets YOU SELECT YOUR FAVORITE FORUMS. It can make things fun and easy. This is especially true for less experienced visitors raised on social media. If you, as a members want more specific topics, you can even select a single forum to view. Let us take a look at fluid view in action. We will then break it down and explain how it works in more detail.   The video shows the topic list and the forum filter box. As you can see, it is easy to change the topic list by changing the selected forums. This view replaces the traditional list of categories and forums.   Of course, members only can change the view to better suit your way of browsing.   You will notice a “grid” option. We have moved the grid forum theme setting into the main forum settings. This makes it an option for members only to choose. This screenshot also shows the removal of the forum breadcrumb in fluid view mode. Fluid view remembers your last forum selection so you don’t lose your place when you go back to the listing. The benefit of this feature is easy to see. It removes a potential barrier of entry for members only. It puts the spotlight on topics themselves, and not the hierarchical forum structure. You as a member will enjoy viewing many forums at once and switching between them without leaving the page. We hope that fluid view, the new functionality is an asset that you enjoy .

You must have a wife and kids too.

I don't get out much anymore either. One trip to the RR and one to Lake Michigan for salmon is about all I get now days.

Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining, but when I first got a boat I was out 5 days a week.

In a couple of years the kids will be old enough to come with on those trips then I can have it all in the fishing realm. Take everyone with and everyone is happy no time away from home if thy are with. CANT WAIT

Ha Ha.. Yep!

An amazing wife, 4 great kids (one starting college), three vehicles (two of them too expensive), a 3500 sq.ft. house, several jobs to try and pay for it all, a crappy little boat, and no time to fish.

I'll probably be shopping for an upgrade to the old duck this spring.

I'm really only laughing at the irony in all of it! Ha!

By the way, that is one amazing pig you're holding in your avatar. Is that a Rainy River eye?

No that's a St.Paul Mississippi River fish. First one of the year in a boat less than 3 minutes. I wrote a post on it about a month ago if you want to see a better picture look at my posts. First fish of open water I do believe it was.

My kids are still pretty young the twins are 3 and a 5 year old daughter. We are all going to make it out a few times this year because I was laid up most of last summer. So we have some catching up to do with them pan fish.

I thought you could cross the line for navigational purposes only. I don't fish the river much, but I thought I had heard that. Let's say you are going along and the US side is to shallow and you have to cross the line to get farther down or up the river. Any US customs or BP reading this can answer this. By know means do it because I "thought" that you could.

Will, can't believe this thread is still alive and can't believe you're still crackin' jokes after the beatin' you've taken from people who can't read. Good attitude dude! Several could take a lesson.

It is my understanding that you can motor accross the middle line to travel the river. I believe that is is against the letter of the law but is actually some common sense enforcement practiced by both sides. Never heard of anyone getting busted for it whether in a boat or on a sled.

I am afraid that if we start trying to throw our "Ugly American" weight around to try to force another soveriegn nation to change their laws to suit us, we might end up with something much less acceptable than we have now. If you stir the septic tank it's gonna stink.

Started to say something about the ignorance of running from the law but remembered a little event on a dirt bike in the early 80's.

Canapy Sam, I will never again worry about my verbose and overly philosophical posts. Keep up the good work. Glad you and Hammer made up.

New chip is NOT accurate when you get up by the dam. The Killer rock above the islands in middle is not shown. In many areas close to shore it shows a gradual taper to shallow water when in fact it is quite deep. No doubt there are some spots where the opposite is true so be careful.

Seemed purrrty accurate below Birchdale.

Been thinking about breaking out the Jiggin Raps, might have to give that a shot. It's been too crowded out there this weekend with MEA going on.

Sounds good! May an oversized deer with obscenely large antlers find its way to you!

Well the weather was pretty crappy but the fish were biting...Had to sort through but kept some for dinner. Caught a variety today, eyes, jumbos, crappie and a few smallies... rigging on or next to rocks worked best for us.

Good luck. Maybe we will see you Friday. I will let you know how things are looking by us as the weekend goes by.

I still hope it's double!  I just went over the map with my brother and talked about our options.  We have enough places to go for sure.  It's always fun planning and talking about past hunts. I put out the question to the other two guys about staying in camp vs the house.  We'll see what they decide.  I hauled our "cabin" home from Ely today so we should have plenty of room if they wanna camp.

Did a few off season projects waiting for Ice. - Underwater camera, Fish Finder, Wheel house mods and the latest converting a 2 cycle Jiffy Lite 90 to an ION battery auger. Got the auger off Craiglist for $10, Drill for $15. Second stage of gear box is a 5 to 1 reduction so got the auger blade to turn at about 250 RPM which I feel is an ideal speed. Gear reduction also doubled the torque of the motor drive. Planning to use the Dewalt 20V ION battery as I already have charger and now converting one of the 1.5 AH batteries to either 9 or 12 AH.  If anyone needs a mid 80's Jiffy Lite 90 motor and clutch PM me. Has great compression, never tried to start it.  Price somewhere between free and a gift. If you did a project this summer, would you care to share them? DJ ION Auger HB.mp4  << Click link for video

You may want to consider #3 ; Rapala Jiggin Raps, or drop shoting. They both have been putting some nice size suspended slabs topside under some breezy conditions as of late. Fishing sure was downright epic the last week for all species. To bad it looks like "global warmering" is coming to an end for this year, was awesome while it lasted...... Those are some decent perch panman54. LOL!
