We can see the corner below Clementson Bay and it was open there last night. Should be able to see boats any minute now.

Lots of holes down to us and should be here by tomorrow.

Doug- where is the nearest landing there? i dont know for sure what i wanna do on friday- we had VERY good luck in the ice last weekend. Im thinking thats what i wanna try to do again- hoping i dont have to go 10 or 12 miles with the old tuna boat. the 30 hp jonny doesnt go that fast!

Will,

Vidas (Clementson) Landing is open on both lanes. The break is down about 3 miles.

Be carefull going down cause there are 19 rockpiles on the US side. Guess I should back up and say there is a rock pile on the Canada side directly out from the confluence of the Rapid River (Clementson Bay) and then about 1.5 miles down are the rockpiles on the US side and the pilings down the middle of the river, so stay to the Canada side until you get a few hundred yards past the confluence of Silver Creek, you'll see the bridge.

Be carefull, the water is cold!

Are you thinking the river will be open out front? what are the chances we can just tie the boat up on the dock there? How deep would you say these rockpiles are? Im sure ill have a million questions for you- hopefully your gonna be around friday morning? Leavin here at 4 am again, but it sounds like we're supposed to get a bunch of snow, fancy that- drive home in a blizzard and come back in a blizzard! it took us a little over 7 hours to get home on sunday where its usually about a 4.5 to 5 hour trip!

ohh ya- did you get a chance to look at that new gps chip for the river at the sports show?

Will,

I think it will be open to us by tomorrow (Thursday) night. Tying up to the dock is at your own risk. Depends on how much you like your boat. I would ask you not to break the ice away from the dock. We thought we were being all smart one year and broke it away, then Clementson Bay shucked out in one piece and destroyed 1/2 of our dock. Wouldn't have happened if we would have let Mama Nature handle things.

Those rock piles vary from 3" to 3' deep and the pilings down the middle have to be pretty near the surface right now.

Drove home from the show Sunday night/Monday morning and it took 8 hours! No fun. Hope you miss this one.

Dropped my chips off Sunday with Steve at Lakemaster to be updated and got them in the mail today! What a 1st class outfit!

Can't wait to look.

Royal Dutchman did you drop off a 2007 lakemaster chip to get updated to a 2008, and if so what did it cost and who would I contact? Thanks.

I talked to lakemaster about this last week and they said if I had an older addition of the low chip and wanted to update, they could do that. Lakemaster would send me an envelope, I would package my older chip to send back to them to get it reformated to the 08 version for $50. If you live close to little falls you may be able to drop an old chip off but it would probably be best to call them first.

Couldn't be happier with the job Carl & Ally are doing here! One of the most frightening things we have ever done, giving our "baby" to someone to take care of. You are not the first we've heard from but always good to hear.

Of course it's all good when you have a fishing experience like you did, eh? We really hate not getting to interact with all the fishermen during this season but the "island" really has us running. We've always said that the spring season can be the most stressfull and the most rewarding at the same time. Looks like this one is going to go for the duration.

Just got the word from the "boat doctor" that the 115 on my Smokercraft is terminal. Looks like I will be in a 16'er for the next 3 incredible days of the season.

Glad you had a good trip! By the way, FM'ers are the BEST!

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
