Cliff, don't you mean you will be sleeping in your chair until 10:30, then when the news is over, time to wake up and go to bed.

Later, Darrell.

Northlander,

I cannot use outlook express to contact you.

You will have to e-mail me then I will be able to contact you.

The crappies are biting well on Vermilion now.

I got my limit of 12 to 14 inchers this morning in 2 hours!

I am open almost anytime that you can go.

Just an FYI there is an email client called Mozilla Firebird that work similar to Outlook Express that I think has less quirks than Outlook Express. Free download on the web if you want to try it. I have been using it for a while and it seems to be pretty good.

No. I ended up putting the pics into another file and then was able to export them.

I dont fish for crappies on vermilion but just out of curiousity are you catching these on the east or west end of the lake? I havent heard of many crappies coming out of the east end. Wont be up to vermilion until walleye opener but im already counting down the days.

Northlander dude......Maybe Best to keep them crappie pic's an spots to yer self.

Cliff might say same thing eh Mr. W?

Somethings aint ment for the world to see / know about.

\:\)

Use the land line for sharing special things like this here crappie info or a cig package an crayon.

;\)

I have a dozen summer / fall spots that hold maybe ten fish each an only go it alone...less said better....I'm selfish bout me crappie digs.

So be it....everyone thinks I be muskie fishen anyway.

Tempting offer, but I really hate to give up a good crappie spot.

Thats all right. You probably have plenty of good spots everywhere. And I really don't have time to be crappy fishing anyway. And FYI....I didn't want it published.

TomW I know what your saying. All the pics we took purposely had no background but ice so nobody could tel where we were. I will not post them if Cliff doesnt like. I surely would never ever give anyone any spot Cliff showed me. I will never fish those spots with out Cliff or his permission. Thats the way I operate. I hate when others tel people the spots you share with them. 1 guy turns into 2 and 2 turn into 10.

You guys Big V secrets are not going to be leaked by me I assure you.

A little scouting and a if a guy knows who is driving what vehicle or in what boat or what ice house its pretty easy to find those "secret" spots....Specially crappie fishing this time of year! All a guy needs is an airplane (or else a good set of eyes will suffice) and walla, suddenly spots are not so secret! Unless your able to make all those tiny holes fill themselves in and erase all the truck tracks!

But I do know crappie spots come and go, and are hit and miss. Might as well get em while you can, or else someone else will.

Thats what I forgot. My airplane. Man would scouting be easy then. With the price of gas these days Ill stick to me snowmobile or boat. $72 to fill my truck the other day and I wasnt even empty. mad.gif

I could fish with you guys anytime.

YOU GET IT!

;\)

Air scouting is something so cool you have to do it just once.

Unreal what it does for me finding just that one special thing missing.

Nice calm, July noonish flight....GOLD!

Have fun, stick some slabs but please Be safe on that late ice....don't want to read your taking an unintentional dip.

Tom, its OK. Northlander is so tall he couldn't drown in most of the Vermilion bays they're fishing crappies in. Once you meet him you'll understand. A Big V musky in late fall snarfing ciscos, if it was as long as Nlander is tall, would weigh 217 pounds. grin.gif

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
