a friend of mine just got back from LOW and said they did okay but he said he caught a 20 lbs pout. he said it was about 40" long. i'm sure that is very uncommon, but what is the largest pout you've ever caught. i'll try to get pictures later.

I haven't caught one anywhere near that size...my biggest was likely 24"; but then again I have only caught a handful.

king,

the state record is 19.3 lbs, and was caught on LOW a few years back, if it was 20 it could have been a new state record. would love to see the pics of that baby.

This one was about 32 inches and was caught out on the flats. First one I ever caught and man talk about ugly and slimy. This thing seemed to posses some form of intellegence. When I put it back in the hole it was tail first and went down about a foot or so and maybe cause of the ice came back up and slithered out of the hole back onto the ice and turned around and went back into the hole head first then swam away.

Yeah. Lucky the other line was up and being rebaited when I realized the bobber was down. Took about 10 minutes to get the thing in the house. At least now I know when the fish turns into a helicopter it is an eel pout not a real fish.

A few years back a bunch of guy's I work with and I were up there fishing out of Bayview's houses. I'm the type of guy that has everything ready to roll and once everyone has their stuff in the fish house, I start fishing. I baited my bobber rod and set it down and as I was dropping a jiggin spoon down the other hole, my bobber disappears! I tell the guy's, who are still tying jigs on their line, "Fish on". I set the hook and my rod doubles over, "Big fish money is in my pocket, big 'eye!" I get it up to the hole and it's big ol' mister burbot. We still get a laugh out of that one.

The pout you see me pictured with earlier in the post tangled up two other lines...what a rat's nest that turned out to be!!!!

About 10 yrs ago or so, we used to get into some pout action out of Babblers...We never latched onto any thing with size. But, I chuckled when reading the posts on what it does to the other lines. Rats nest is the perfect word! No use trying to unravel the knot, just cut and start over.

I have a great picture of a pretty big pout, however it seems too hard to figure out how to post it. Wish you could just attach a file and be on your way!

Just for the record. I did not catch the fish and it is not me in the picture. But Brian was from our group from last year. I believe this was actually his first pout. We actually will be heading up this weekend in hopes of catching a lot of fish!
