so what are your prediction on this weekends series when the Badgers come to Mariucci? I think gophers will get 2 points out of this series. I will be at the game Friday night, hopefully there will be more goals scored than the last game I went to when Sioux and Gophers tied 1-1.

My prediction would be that the gophers will be lucky if they get their typical 1 point for the weekend.

Looks like PierBridge is the smartest hockey mind on this thread...closest to the actual outcome!! Nice call PierBridge!!

Varmitpuke and backhole, I'd keep my day jobs if I was you, your prognostication skills are lacking! Go Canadian National Team!

Another sweep for the Fighting Sioux!!!

I was at both games, saturday and sunday. Oshie was the best player on the ice, after getting tugged down (Sundays game) and getting up and making a good wrap around pass to Kozek in the slot, bang score to score the game winner with less than 4 mins to play! That was a play to see. Other than that, fun game to watch on Saturday and Sundays game was a little sloppy. Walski got his first start and stopped all shots and getting a shutout.

On the other hand, CC Tigers are ahead with 4 points. Should be interesting to see how the season ends up in the standings.

GO SIOUX!

Sloppiest excuse for hockey that I've seen in a long time. Gotta give it to the Gophs, they figured out how to score this weekend. Although, 4 or 5 of the goals scored on Saturday were scored on horrible turnovers.

I will have to give congratulations to the goophers for getting triple their usual weekend points. Looks like the Edina and Hill Murray boys actually can put a home victory on the record book. Too bad about falling apart, as usual, on Saturday night.

I probably should have thought a little harder about my "prognostication", as with the exception of a few more ties than the rest, the Badgers are losing as many games as they win in the WCHA this year.

Looks like I will have to get the old thesaurus out to keep up with the keen whit of Wapiti.

Just to set you straight, you should have written "Hill Murray boy"...not "boys", as there is only one of our Minnesota boys that went to high school at Hill Murray...none from Edina.

It's going to take more than a thesaurus for ya...I hope you were joking about having to investigate the word "prognostication"??? Go USA!

Varmit, A thesaurus is not necessary to out wit most of the Gopher lovers on this site. I do however have an old 3rd grade spelling manual that should be sufficient. Go Sioux!

The ONLY thing I will agree with the rodent fans on ever is we don't need to see these images any more. As far as the games, since all the rodent fans were so quick to chop down the Sioux after the skirmish during their series, any of you want to comment on the saturday night cross check Peltier gave the badger player who was on his knees looking away at the end of the first? grin.gif

Semantics. City boys are city boys. My theory is that if I was to have the choice to go fishing, have some beers, and shoot the bull with a bunch of guys this weekend, I would much rather hang out with some rural Canadian guys than a bunch of spoiled city boys. I guess the same holds true on who I root for in college hockey. Too much whining constantly going on in gopher hockey to possibly be a fan. The bad taste still holds on from Woog, who would have his all metro team picked out by the time the kids were done with bantams, maybe throwing out one token scholarship to a northern MN player.

Of course, perhaps the education in MN north of St. Cloud may be lacking, as I did have to look up "prognostication". I guess simply saying prediction seems to get me by.

As far as the advice on thinking from Pierbridge, thanks for the tip. Your tips are about as good as your "facts".

👍. What was the water temp in Black Bay? Thanks....

      No, that wasn't me.  I drive a 621 Ranger.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!

Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
