Pug Hole area is a hot spot early in the year... It get's deep enough to hold fish and the one area of danger is the mouth into Cass Lake... It get's very shallow and the current could be an issue early in the year with the water run off.. There is some good weeds in that area... It is fairly wide south of the Pike Hole Bar...

Hope this helps...

Beef,

thanks for the response. i'm gonna keep an eye on your spring, but how's that area in mid-june?

It all depends on the water level that is also controlled by the dam... It usually is easy to get through that time of the year as long as the wind is cooperating...

Jim you are still alive? Long time no see....   Truck went through on Buffalo last night I guess. Saw the pics on facebook looks like the dude drove right into open water good thing it was shallow. That fog was brutal that would be scary dropping in with that fog like that.

Went out with a friend today. Looked like it was the month of March with the temp and water on the ice, and they bit like it was March as well! Ended up with 30 sunfish (7 1/2 to 9 in) 6 crappies and 2 perch! Was a lot of fun best bite I've had yet this year! If your going out I would advice to wear cleats espically when that water on top of the ice freezes.

The DNR should post a sign telling those unfamiliar with the lake that driving out from the main public access is unsafe. I don't recall ever seeing anything like that over there.
