How did you turn out in the great white north?

I ended up finding a few gills this morning and proceeded to join Muc33 at the Round lake tourney. Although we (I) only got one bite and one 'eye it was good enough to get me $100. This is the first time I've actually made money for a day of fishing and I kind of like it. There were 178 entrants in the contest and 17 fish were caught in three hours but it was a good time BSing and waiting for that flag to finally fly.

PerchPounder, you lucky devil you! Congrats on your day! I still can't believe how thick the ice is! The JIFFY had a workout! Maybe we will meet up at the next event. I'll be back to Round pretty soon tto get some more of those eyes.

Yeah I know. Luck of the draw but I will take it anyway I can get it. I think we could have had more fish for our group but we weren't trying too hard. Maybe next time.

Way to bring home the bacon.....er.....fishie.....er.....CASH PP!! grin.gif

Just once I wish God would let me ice fish this season without trying to blow me across a lake.

Reelemin, TerryT, Fishin4kids, Trouble 28, myself, and a few others were out on Shetek. The weater really made moving around difficult so we just hunkered down and fished.

I thing Reelemin came in with 5 crappies, Terry T had a couple of crappies and a nice pike, I ended up catching about a dozen walleyes too small to keep and 7 dandy crappies.

I'm still kicking myself. A little over a week ago a friend of mine offered to let me use his Marcum camera for a couple of weeks. I said no thanks. Yeah, I'm that dumb. Once again I saw a ton of lookers on the flasher, but few takers no matter what I did. It seemed the ones that actually did want the bait came in so fast you couldn't even catch them on the flasher. It was fun. All in all, I'll call it a good day on the ice. Sounds like you guys had some good times down on round, too.

PerchPonder sounds like a great day on the ice. Fishing and making money - does it get any better ?

Boilerguy, that was a fun day on the ice. My gosh that wind is unbelievable down there on the prairie. I had all 4 limbs stretched holding onto the inside poles a few times. Even attached to the wheeler and me sitting i9n the seat, I thought I was going to be air born a couple of times !!! crazy.gif

Fishing was so so, Just enough action to keep ya there. Like Eric said the wind kept us from being mobile.

Lots of lookers and a nice crappie every so often would charge and nail the hook. Fun. I also iced a coulple of small (very small \:o , half a fish stick size \:D ) walleyes and a perch.

Boilerguy, its been great fishing you, good luck the rest of hard water season and I'll catch up with you when the water is wavy again. \:D

Tami, if you thought the wind was strong yesterday..... holy moses today was incredible.

Sounds like you guys and gals had a good time. We had some fun too and the Round Lake Sportsmans club had a great turn out. It was great to see SkeeterB there and some other FM'ers. Thanks for coming out.

We really found the walleyes on the night bite on Round the last two days. Gotta get my girls a plate full of fresh ones this week before the season is kaputz! So we will hit it hard and try to fill the fryer one of these nights.

Only ice is in McQuade harbor and Knife River, and not much at that.  Cohos are biting really well on some days for guys fishing off the Two Harbors break wall. Pretty miserable conditions in which to fish, though....    South shore has good ice around Washburn, and a few cohos mixed in with good catches of Browns, spoke, and whitefish. Cohos on MN side have averaged 13-14" this winter.

I have been using a Strikemaster Lithium Lazer 50v electric auger the last couple years. Very happy with it, but I'm limited to about 70-100 feet of ice drilled per charge, depending on temp/hardness of ice. That's more than enough for most bluegill trips, but it's lacking when the ice gets thick and I'm trying to find walleyes on big water during full-day trips. I find myself not drilling as many holes as I would like in an attempt to ration the charge. I just picked up an Eskimo P1 Rocket 8" propane auger. My buddy has the 10" and it's the best auger I've ever used. If anyone wants to really aerate a lake, the Rocket fits the bill. I'll use this along with the Strikemaster electric to meet all of my drilling needs. I haven't used the Rocket yet. It's in the mail. I'm excited at it's light weight in particular. 26 pounds.

Next time you give it a try. Take a flash light and look up to make sure the throttle flapper is returning to the closed position when you let off the gas and it dies. I have had them stick open or half open then your more or less trying to restart it at half or full throttle which may just be flooding it out. It's either starving for gas or flooding.  Let us know if you solve it.  Good Luck.
