Its not any deeper, when you dig in even 5 or 6 inches tou hit the gray murky thick clay and they didnt want to deepin it

It may be a little tuff going thru if we dont keep the rain coming

It will be a great scratch and dent topic this coming year

Goose89, sorry if you think I gave away your spot. ;\) With west norway being almsot 1 1/2miles north to south and 1/2 mile wide that little spot is about the size of your garage. Have you fished it?

Too bad they rip-rap the channel from west norway going into norway. That thing barely floated my ranger last summer. Little norway going into games forget it. I'll trailer my boat.

jiggin the project could have included deepening and many were for that happening but it just did not happen.

4 years ago we had about 70 people down to park cafe for meeting and the idea was to improve the channel ,deepen it and rip rap.

If we do not see a great deal of moisture the small boats only idea is going to be part of lake hopping.

Its going to be hard on bass league and tourneys unless you are in lihter aluminum or glass boats that scratches and dents are allowable on.

We have been digging it down by hand for many years but are down to the clay now and dont want to go deeper for fear that it will cave in.

I've seen guys "digging it down" it with their props \:o

Unfortunately, that channel's done it's share of damage to our prop, too. None on purpose, though.

saw a guy wedged sideways in there in boat had motor down quite far and was running it wide open and getting no-where.

it was quite amusing, had to get out of boat one night and manually push thru as after being gone over to norway just could not get back thru.

Games will be a lot calmer without all the ice cream traffic

Prime, what ice cream traffic, people going to the park for ice cream? They could go to a local resort for that.

park is the only one on lake chain serving meals on lake chain. That place has had food continuously for 70 some years.

Helen that had it until last year figured that 1/3 of meals were to persons from the other lakes.

2 years ago she said she served 10,000 ice cream cones annually, which would be about correct with numbers we had been serving for 50 some years.

Its nice for locals to be able to get breakfast lunch or supper and ice cream.

Having a place on Games will be nicer if creek eliminates some of cruiser traffic,we will use smaller boat or as usual kayak over to little norway or put boat in at landings on Norway if water is down in creek.

But the cruisers are going to hate it.

the work that was proposed at property owners associtaion meeting has been done.

we dropped out of associaition after nothing was done after our group meeting at games lake cafe several years ago

the property owners association were the only ones back than that were not willing to chip in for modifications back than, lots of people worked pretty hard than to get work done and dedicated funds and labor to fix it up

I guess they [Norway Lake Games Lake Property Owners ] finally chipped in financially. The amount they were asked to put in before was $1000.00

One group said they would take it over and do it thru volenteers but they did not realize that the area around creek doesnt freeze so they gave up on it.

It would be several groups that would make this happen, but some that were involved have no idea of what they decided to do including me

Suppose we will have to rejoin now that they have done a project on Games

We will look at what got done first thou in case its not totally finished and works for all, including cruisers

I guess its done as far as what they are going to do but it is not deeper or wider just riprapped to prevent further erosion

when we wanted to do a very massive change[improvement ]we had the DNR as one of the partners to do this.

Smaller every year upkeep has always been done without any permits etc.

Trees down from beaver, branches and other things that would be in way and shoveling were always done only as maintenence.

I heard this morning that no deepening or widening was done to finish this passage

Guess the way we will see it is the way it will be maintained

part of the problem everyone had with it for a few years is that neighboring property owner was throwing wire and rocks and other things in it to keep people away from his property.

Than the people that bought his property were told they owned down to creek when it was the owners on west side that actually own both sides of it.New owner did not want any one crossing there yard to go down to maintain it but they are ones who finally allowed skid loaders etc, to carry rocks down fron thier yard where they were dumped to rip rap.

The lot is for sale that ohas both sides of creek only 2.4 million for about 15 acres.I feel good that as a bare piece of property that it has such a high value,[i maintained it for 25 years]and kept the creek in as navagible shape as possible.

That does sound like the lake assoc. deal. They seem to only worry about spraying worms in the spring, and forget the rest. The sheephead contest is their other deal. Maybe the Games lake dam should be closed to raise the lake level.

LOL, there wasn't water within 15' of it later last summer!

If they would have held the water back, Games maybe would not have been so low.

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st

As I get older it's really not just about sending bullets down range.  Some of it's just the workmanship of the gun and the wow factor. The other two guns I have really wanted which I'll never have now because of their price, is a 8mm Jap Nambu and 9mm German Luger.   Just thought they always looked cool!

I had a guy hit me with a lightly used 1969 BAR, he wanted $1650 with an older Leupold scope. More than I think they are worth, I made an offer, he declined end of story.   You know if you look at the old brochures, a grade II BAR sold for $250 in the late 60s, $1650 would be a good return on your investment.    Why would anybody want a 50 year old gun, they are heavy, have wood stocks, and blued metal.  I guess mainly to keep their gun safes glued to the floor. lol   You can probably buy a stainless rifle that you never have to clean, with a synthetic stock you never have to refinish, is as light as a feather, and for half as much money, perfect.   I'm too old for a youth gun, although I've shrunk enough that it would probably fit. lol   No Ruger 10/44s.   Jim
