homemade Reel Lines

4 posts in this topic

I made some homemade reel lines the other night only spent around $20 to make and it made 4 lines with about 4-6 ft of the weeds on it, Im not going to lie I was a little worried if it was going to work. Set up last night in the crappie hole and after about 1hr the fish started to sit in the lines and around them, my buddy thought I was a fool until then and we started hitting the fish, we even pulled a nice muskie up on the tip up, have only heard of them been caught never seen them, it was awsome, few of the other guys fishing around me were amazed, so I highly would try it out

A buddy of mine made his own reel weeds type structure a couple months back and still hasn't tried them. He don't get out on the ice all that much, but I'll have to let him know about the success of your weeds so he can get out and give his a shot.

Most of our fish came on minnows under bobbers. I spooked countless fish with even subtle jigging.

Hey, Here a quick update on actual ice thickness or snow cover on trout. 14 inchs of ice pressure ridge out there. if you are  on a snowmobile if traveling fast on it watch for it. Truck or car i do not recommend on trout with pressure ridge. And yes i have been on the whitefish chain this year in truck. just not on trout. just my 2 cents

Thanks for the info everyone. And Borch that is good to know too.  I try to spend 2-3 hours looking on cedar each trip, but It's a lot of water to break down , and having only been out hardwater cattin 6 times so far I still have a lot to learn.  Generally I spend a lot of my 3 hours losing confidence and then wind up at the meth hole to catch a few .  Putting in the work is what makes it so fun once it all comes together though!
