Topside conditions on ice

3 posts in this topic

I was wondering what the topside of the ice is like as far as snowcover. I spent this past weekend in the Hinckley area ice-fishing and the lakes were all glaze-ice after melting and re-freezing. It was actually pretty welcome after we didn't go out over New-Years since it was so snowy and slushy.

Any help on the lakes is appreciated in advance.

Stick -have been on pokie and the snow has got pretty hard, tire tracks from yesterday didn't sink but a couple inches in the snow for the most part. Looked like a few spot that the snow was deeper but i ride a sled out there and it seems plenty chrunchy.

Thanks for the update. It's been about a month since I've been on the lake, but the conditions sound pretty favorable for easy travel and not too hard-packed where it's tough on the sled's track.

Crazy birds!  Seen 2 jakes that would putt and cut like hens, a little deeper sound of course, and would talk back to me and Abi.  The Tom was absolutely quiet and disinterested.   Been along time since birds were this quiet.  Tough to make moves.  Probably just better to sit tight and wait.   Good luck.
