How are the lakes around here holding up? I've heard some rumors that a couple of the smaller ones may be opened up to liberailzed fishing. Is there any truth to that or is just a rumor.

K Dawg- the DNR has a list of the lakes opened up to liberalized fishing, as well as the dates and special regs that apply...

K dawg...

There are several we are watching right now... but none that we have seen the need to open up yet. Several of the local lakes we have installed aeration systems in and some that we are watching to see if they need aeration...

It will be posted the day of in the case that we see the need to.. both on the main site (Where Grant mentioned above) and our local area web.. http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/areas/fisheries/montrose/events.html

I love these fish! The attitude is always fun and they taste great. The strip of y bones can be cut right out with a little effort.    I know where I'll be early in the morning May 13th with topwaters and swimbaits!

Grubens did permits the 2016 season. Fortune bay stopped writing BWCA permits the end of the 2015 season. Sally retired and that ended the permits at the bay.  Some day we will be able to buy permits on line and print them.

The video shown in the link posted above shows most of the fish they're handling going back because they're not ready or too green. The video was from 4/14 so I would bet they are done as that was 1 1/2 weeks ago. Cutfoot was done in less than a week. Cliff will be able to tell you for sure when then finished but I'd guess they were done by the end of last week.
