Nice day!!!

10 posts in this topic

headed out to frances this morning. hit the lake around 9 and fished from 9-1 and managed 8 nice crappies and sorted a few others. I fished from 24-33 feet of water. Next I hit madison and fish 22-27ft from 2-5 and ended up with the other two nice crappies and threw a few more back and a couple perch. Madison was ok but there are too many idiots out on the lake running there 4 wheelers and augers every 2 minutes by you. In the end it was a beautiful day on the ice especially knowing what is coming tomorrow.

Yea it was beautiful out today, fished duck from 3-6 and caught all the 5-6 inch sunfish you wanted. Does anyone have any suggestion on where i could go to catch some decent size sunfish?

Thanks

Great Report, it seems like those depths have been the key lately, it almost makes me wonder when they will start moving shallow, we shouldn't be too far away.

Hmm, I knew I shouldn't be using the stars to guide my year anymore, I was on schools of those slabs as well but now all that's there are the dinks, 8-10 inchers, might have to go a little shallower I guess. Thanks for the tip.

Ryan,

Sorry I didn't catch up with you this past weekend. I was pulled in another direction by an area 'eye bite. If I don't go to Round Lake this weekend, you'll definitely see me down there.

Well you didn't miss much that's for sure, I actually had a slow weekend in comparison to what was going,ok well I got sidetracked a bit here and there and wasn't able to hit the prime times, ran into a few friends on the way to the lake chasing coyote, so I jumped in to see what that was all about, man can them things move, we tracked the one over 9 miles across country, managed some crappies but the size went from good to nothing, 8-10 inchers, I couldn't even put my nephew on some perch during the day, which is unusual for that lake, they were seining so we ended up watching that for awhile, That's fishing. Time to take a few days off from the lake, let the weather settle in and get refocused.

If there's enough interest, we can certainly try to put something together. But, my intentions for the next Get-Together were for a "spring clean-up" just before the 'eye opener.

My buddy has the 5 w/GPS. When you combine it with a lakemap chip it's a really sweet set-up for ice fishing as you can pinpoint spots on lakes and mark your location for the next time you're out.  I don't know anything about the sonar vs. flasher issue or if there is a slight delay. All I know is I want one.   Also, there are down imaging and side imaging versions available, and ones with and without GPS. Be sure you take that into consideration when you're shopping. I've gotten excited about some pretty good deals I've seen on the Helix 5, only to realize it doesn't have GPS. If you're going to use your for ice fishing I think you would want the GPS version.

Whenever I want to take a kid out fishing and keep them entertained, then I always go to Kelly Dudley.  In the summer, it is impossible not to catch a steady stream of sunfish.  I have never tried it in the winter, but suspect it would be a good place to keep an eight year old busy.   If you go out, make absolutely sure to bring ice cleats.   There is an indoor fish camp going on in Faribault this weekend.  http://www.maxsolutionsonline.com/cityoffaribault/Customer/ActivityDetail.aspx

Are you looking for this summer?   Are you looking for cabin type resorts, camping, tent/RV?   Here is a place to start:   http://business.parkrapids.com/list/category/resort-cabin-327   I live in the area so haven't spent to much time at different resorts but I've always liked R&D Resort on Straight Lake in Osage, MN which is only 8 miles from Park Rapids. Isle O' Dreams is another very cool place to stay.

Lots of water on the ice now where people have their houses. Took my house off yesterday and the plowed roads were pretty slushy already.
