Anyone know of upcoming tournaments... I'd like to get into a few.

I've fished the Devils Lake Tournament one time, but other than that - never really fished tournaments.

If you could post tournaments and dates, that would be excellent... Also, let me know if there are any tournaments that allow portable houses.

THANKS

There are a bunch:

1.Brainerd Jaycees Ice fishing extravaganza slated for Jan 26

2.8th annual "challenge" Lake L'Homme Dieu in Alexandria on February 9.

3.Forest Lake Ice Fishing contest February 16

Well not a bunch, but enough to keep you busy. Looks like all have a lot of good prizes. The brainerd one looks to be the best. giving away a new truck and boat and a lot of cash prizes. Lastly, these look to be house free, so dress warm.

I'll have to check my schedule and see if any of these match up with my days off. good luck. the Perch

Actually I think it's the Glyndon Rod and Gun Club that sponsers this one. Not that it really matters I guess.

Are you from Glyndon Ludzy??

Nope not from Glyndon, I live in Fargo.

I have a buddy who lives there. He turned me on to this tournament 3 years ago. I didnt make it out this year. Heard the big walleye was about 10.5 lbs. this year. Good Job to that guy!

Your ticket stub is your raffle ticket and puts you in for the drawing.

There is a tournament on Lida this saturday (09Feb08) that is being put on by the local Jaycees. As far as I know, it is ten dollars to enter and starts at one o'clock. Thought someone out there may want to know.

Are you sure that is the correct date? I am interested if so. I went to look for more information about it and I found a website that said it was on January 27th? The link to where I found that info was: [Note from admin: Please read forum policy before posting again. Thank you.]

I'm pretty sure he's correct on the date. I've heard it advertised on the radio (KRCQ 102.3 FM out of DL) it is being put on by the Pelican Rapids Area JC's.

Will the holes be predrilled, can you fish anywhere, or do you have to drill them in a given area? Do you have to fish on the ice... geeze sounds like I am planning to cheat... nope. Hate fishing on the ice when its cold and I have a few spots that I would like to fish if I entered grin.gif What are the prizes (first few is sufficient)?

Thanks ALOT!

I can't answer all of your questions, but as far as for the one about prizes goes.... The radio ad says that there is over $1100.00 in prizes with an aqua view camera being given away.

It doesn't sound like they have the prizes like the one last weekend in PR had, but may be fun to go to. Although -6 for a high on Saturday may keep me away.

Does that mean would be sitting on the ice? If that is the case it would have to be much warmer than -6! I am a fair weather tourney man. eek.gif

Not sure, but most ice tournaments don't allow portables. Although, under those circumstances, I would have to think that they would almost have to, or not have anybody show up.

From what I was told tonight, they are allowing portables this year. I am not sure how reliable this information is but thats what I was told. I can't imagine them saying no since it is supposed to be so cold with such high wind.

Just read on the Fargo Forum web site that the Pelican Rapids JC's tournament scheduled for tomorrow has been re-scheduled until next Saturday the 16th. A look at the extended forcast shows highs near 30 next Saturday, so that is a good decision to switch it in my book.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
