What bait is working best?

4 posts in this topic

My dad and I are heading up to LOW tomrrow and wondering what bait or presentation seems to be working the last couple of days. Any advice is appreciated.

We had the most consistent bite on Saturday and Sunday with a glow jig with an orange dot on them. Shiners were the bait.

I changed lures throughout both days but had no real luck with anything other than the orange glow.

we were up 19,20,21st,fished with both fatheads & shiners, the fish didn't seem to have a preference on which minnow they chomped.Hot pink with white and glow green seemed to be the most active holes.Deadsticking was working better than jigging as the weekend went on.Watch your electronics for suspended fish picked up a few up to 12'off the bottom.

good luck and be safe.

Day two was a bit different than day one for us.  Much slower mid day resulting 50 fish for the day.  A couple of 23" being the biggest.    ESE wind caused a different approach Today that challenged me a bit.  As well as the river was VERY BUSY today!   Water conditions appeared to stay fantastic as far as current and clarity,  should be a nice week ahead for those coming up.

We have fished both days out of Vidas.

Buddy of mine just drove past the Big and Littlefork rivers on hwy11, said ice bank to bank on both. Even saw fresh tracks from snowmobiles on them. So for whatever that's worth guys and gals.

Took the boat out on Cedar Island today.  Water was 39 and crappie were deep.  Large bay at access was iced over but could hug the shore and make it around.  Otherwise it was mostly open.

Tipups we are between Springsteel and Warroad right now. Still driving trucks and wheelhouses out about 24" of ice.
