Mirror Lake

3 posts in this topic

Been monitoring this site for up-to-date info for a couple years now(especially spring smelt run). Thought I'd join the fun.

Anyway, I've been thinking about trying Mirror Lake just west of Hwy 4 north of Duluth. I've noticed a fisherman on the lake here and there when I drive by. DNR site shows stocking of brown trout and more recently splake although I think they plan on stopping the stocking. Anyone try this lake and do any good? What's best to fish for? Any tips or advice?

I live near Mirror lake. Fished it a few times in the summer, with little success. Usually catch tons of tiny perch, and a few 8" browns with white meat. Your probably better off going to Clear lake over by the Minnow-ette. You can get soem decent sized rainbows in there. We've caught some up to 18", but the average is more like 13".

I've fished Mirror a couple times in the winter and have only caught small perch and crappies. I haven't heard of anyone catching any fish out of clearwater this year either. I wonder if DNR stocking is down in this area this year?

My buddy and his dad dropped there front end of there pickup in on lake bemidji Saturday luckley they were able to get out with out harm. After all the rain and warm temps hopefully people learn now to stop driving. If you do go out walk not worth the risk. I'm looking at the forcast and after tonight the lows for nights are in the teens so hopefully things may heal up and I can get out a few more times. It's the middle of February I'm not going to be putting things away yet feels like I just got things out!

We had to ride snowmobiles 30 miles out of the Canadian bush Monday and it was a mess. Filled our Otters with water even with covers strapped on.

From what I am seeing on the Arnesen webcam, there is not much snow left.  Sleds would need scratchers.  Wheelers maybe a better option until we get more snow and there is none in the forecast.

Coming up Thursday morning and planning on making the run to the reefs/islands via snowmobile.  Is there any loose snow left on the trail to keep the sleds cool, or would a 4 wheeler be necessary?  Any information from locals there would be very much appreciated.  Thx.
